Even though you would think Boeing doesn't need to do much consumer advertising, what they do is brand for their own ideological control of society. This "branding" is actually called propaganda in other societies were people aren't as brainwashed.

Boeing has launched the first of two new advertising programs in response to the post-Sept. 11 business environment. The campaign "Freedom Is Being There" reminds people that traveling freely and without worry is a precious liberty and that governments and industry are taking important steps to ensure their comfort, safety and security. The other campaign, "Being There Is Everything," expands support to the airline industry. According to a comprehensive air travel survey sponsored by Boeing just released, 9 out of 10 Americans who have flown commercially since Sept. 11 felt "safe" or "very safe."

§Flying is cool...

Flying technologies are where its at for me. Soon personal flight craft will fill the urban sky. Those out here in the wilderness will bridge the gap between ruralism and urban variety by personal flight only.
Sure boeing is way to huge and prosperous even when failing. Boeing is nothing without the US government. Its a crime how boeing has wiped its ass with golden tissue supplied by the sweat of the brow of every American citizen. BUT. Having a huge workforce skilled in the systems of flight is a very good thing, to me. Do we allow the government to control flight technology and production ? No.
Can the industry do it alone ? No. Downsize. Standardize. Spread out the wealth. Ooops. No.
Standardize. Yes. Why cant a mom and pop operation supply the same gasket as a protected supplier ? Why are suppliers protected ? Specialization ? So. Quality ? So. Hummm...
