Canadian Anarchists Hold Indymedia Benefit Party in the Streets

Pro-Indymedia Street Party held in the spirits of Reclaim The Streets, followed by an non-violent action against bias corporate media.

This public street party will be used as a vehicle to increase general public awareness in a positive party atmosphere. The internet and zine-based independent media has been exposing all points of view and has the potential to be a true alternative to the mainstream corporate media, who has betrayed the trust of the people who depend on them to portray an unbiased scene of events.

It has always been evident that corporate media is not on the side of social justice. Moreover, especially now after Ottawa, they are evidently trying their best to limit and silence a growing movement of dissent.

If the movement intends on making any real gains we must begin to mobilize for positive purposes. At this moment, we seem to be primarily occupied with reactionnary actions; summit-hopping every 6 months. The strong resistance in the streets at the meetings of international elites is essential, but in order to win the struggle we must maintain the revolutionary spirit with integrity everyday.

The party is intended to begin a campaign against corporate media. Using a diversity of creative tactics to expose the media as what they are, we can bring the struggle to a new level. To kickoff the campaign, we propose to act non-violently but try our best to get our point across.

As Audre Lorde said, "We cannot use the master's tools will not dismantle the master's house." We need to create our own networks of communication to present a challenging alternative to the bias media that exists now.
