Surgit Singh; a 22 year old native of Punjab, India; was gunned down in Tulare, California early Saturday morning by confederates of a man stealing beer from a convenience store. Mr. Singh was working as a clerk to help in the family operated store when the incident occurred.

On Wednesday evening a Punjabi man, 36 year old Rajinder Kumar Jain, was shot to death in an apparent robbery at a liquor store in Fresno. The owner; also born in Punjab, India; had received threats since the September 11 tragedy.

The first apparently racially motivated murder in the Central Valley related to the September 11 tragedy was on September 30th. Abdo Ali Ahmed was killed in his market in Reedley, California (a city in southern Fresno County) by four young men. There was no evidence of a robbery and he had received several threats in the days preceding the shooting.

A press conference was held at the Fresno Center for Non-Violence on Sunday November 25th regarding the killings. Ghassan AbulGhanam spoke for the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, saying many in the American-Arab community feel they are being targeted and are hoping this will decrease as time passes.
