7hr Protest/Die-In at KRON TV (photos 15-29)

Protest was organized by
San Francisco Town Hall Committee to Stop War & Hate
Town Hall Committee’s Call to Action:
…
Millions of people are about to starve to death and the media doesn’t care.
We must act now.
We demand that the US stop the bombing while food aid is being delivered.
We demand that the media relay the truth about potential millions of civilian
casualties if food is not delivered to the Afghan people before winter hits.
…
Close to 100 people joined the 7hour protest in front of KRON TV 4.
There were many honks of encouragement from passing drivers.
Protesters held a huge, maybe 40 foot long, banner with the words:
7.5 MILLION ABOUT TO STARVE - BOMBS BLOCK FOOD AID.
People took turns participated in the die-in, with from two to twelve bodies
on the ground for the entire evening.
Symbolizing the food waiting at the border in Pakistan as a result of U.S.
bombs - people wrote their feelings on paper lunch bags that were then filled
with dried lentils and placed on a border drawn in chalk. The lentils were to
be donated to FOOD NOT BOMBS.
Some of what was written:
…
Peace not war - Don’t Starve Children
…
We teach our children to talk out their conflicts and not to use violence. We
are told by the government the only solution is war.
…
Although two or three TV trucks drove away from KRON TV while I was
there - apparently no one was willing to walk a few feet out the front door to
cover the protest.
SF Police, including at least one plain-clothed officer, did their job for the
evening - protecting what one protester dubbed: U.S. Media - The Fourth
Branch of Government.
