sometimes it's like everyone at a protest has a role to play, and they'll be damned if anyone messes it up for them. the cops are the tough guys, protesters are divided b/t the "good" ones with the same puppets an slogans and the "bad" ones that like to get more militant with cops and windows, and onlookers chalk it all up as a rally of more crazy radicals.

what's beyond this? street protest is just one tactic in the struggle for a free and just world, but its importance seems exaggerated sometimes. there are certainly groups doing amazing work in their local communities, but there's not much reporting on that.

will the anti-corporate globalization movement be able to bridge the wide-ass gap b/t itself and communities of color that have been struggling for decades? will it be able to find a way to work with an authoritarian left which, while annoying as fuck and generally innoucous, does manage to bring people out and remain super-organized? will the imagination and creativity of the many amazing people involved be allowed to shine through and take shape as new tactics mix with the old to fire up the uninspired?

i have no fucking idea. but i'm interested in finding out.

street protests are a great strategy right now. really they could be waaay better, more militant, and more productive (rather than just putting on a show).

they also provide a place for people to meet, get to know each other, form bonds, etc. they also show the world what we think in a way that we could never do through other means.

there are challenges with people of color, etc we must also show solidarity with people of color in other countries who are constantly having large street protests with a 'diversity of tactics'

personally i hope we continue on this momentum of street protests, as it is of the only glimmers of hope in an otherwise dismal future
