Ottawa: Day 1

by Alias Salem
Day at the Ottawa protests against the G20/IMF/WB
About 400 people marched through the streets of Ottawa today under the anarchist and anti-capitalist banners and flags. One Independent Media Center activist was also arrested ostensibly for videotaping police. A fairly orderly march ensued. The marchers pretended to prepare for rushing the meeting hall where the G20 Finance Ministers are at, then at the last minute retreated down a side street. As they marched along a McDonalds franchise had it's windows broken out along with an anti-abortion billboard. All in all it was a peaceful protest except for about ten extremists that also pushed over a United Way billboard and punched a CTV cameraman (violence toward animals?), an interesting choice for "anarchists". One has to ponder whether the violent few really where anarchists or just simply non-tactical. Those interested in finding out more about economic sabatoge as a tactic may find http://www.earthliberationfront.com of interest, then again the ELF does not condone endangering others while engaged in guerilla tactics against animal and economic exploiters.
