SF Teach-In: Story

by Peter Maiden (pmaiden [at] pacbell.net)
Teach-in against the war takes place at Mission High School in San Francisco.
A teach-in held at Mission High School in San Francisco October 27 brought several hundred people to hear speakers put the current crisis in some perspective. The event was put on by the A.N.S.W.E.R. coalition (Act Now to Stop the War and End Racism), the group that did much of the groundwork for the September 29 and October 7 peace demonstrations here. Speakers at the teach-in came from the Middle East Children’s Alliance, the Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and the Afghani Muslim Association, among other organizations. Their calls for peace were met with a warm response.

The Marxist/Leninist/Stalinist Worker's World Party, the front for both the International Action Center and 'ANSWER'.

Did they mention how they supported the -Soviet- invasion of Afghanistan, along with Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and South Korea?

Come on Pat .. give us some evidence. Such hearsay is useless. Make a compelling argument founded on facts if you can ...

Hi there PK and Ahmed, it is definatelt true that ANSWER and the International Action Center are run mostly by members of Workers World organization. Look at many of IAC's prominent activists such as Gloria Rivera, a well known WW member. Outside of asking the most credible, experienced activists that have been in the movement for years yourself, you could make the superficial connection that the same fonts and flyers, and organizing style are used by all groups.

On WW support for the USSR;s invasion of Afgafistan, their support for both the repression of the Tienimen square movement and Solidarity movement in Poland, this is true also. YOu should be able to find it at their web site, or just ask any WW member (they will probably give a very convaluted answer though, so much for an ANSWER to such horrible and unjustifiable politics!)
