Environmental and Social Activists Are Not Terrorists!
We are the people seeking non-violent, positive social change…

Look into those eyes…what do you see? Can you see the Love of the Earth, and all of her creatures? Can you see the excitement of being 110 feet up in an Old Growth Douglas Fir tree, in the Mattole River Watershed Free State? Can you see the sadness of those eyes looking across hills and valleys of clearcuts and landslides, having already witnessed the murder of David "Gypsy" Chain, and having been the second set of eyes to see the cut in Luna, almost a year after Julia "Butterfly" Hill descended? Can you see the hope in those eyes, those eyes that watched Luna get saved, after watching Julia’s supply bag go up and down that tree, countless times? Or do you see what the government wants you to see…?

In the wake of the insanity that has enveloped the world over the past five weeks, we find the government attempting to create laws that would even further erode our rights to privacy, speech, protection from illegal search and seizure, peaceful assembly, express our grievances with the government, among others. These laws (SB 1510 and HR 2975) cannot be tolerated, and must not be allowed to become "business as usual." This is another form of McCarthyism, already enacted in the "War on Drugs;" September 11th has opened up a whole new opportunity for the Bush administration, on behalf of Corporate America, to attempt to squelch any kind of dissent as "terrorism."
The Bush administration is also using 9-11 as an opportunity to fill their pockets with war dollars, hoping to further increase their incomes with oil and opium money. It is so obvious what is going on, and now we have anthrax popping up all over, which is a direct reaction to the U.S./NATO bombing campaign! Imagine what will happen if ground troops move and, and if this war continues for even one more day. We must break the cycles of violence, and we can only do that by stopping all violence, immediately. Violence only propagates more violence, so we, the U.S., must take a stand, and set an example, for peace.
Those of us who live in the trees, organize/attend rallies and mass demonstrations, such as the ones at the WTO, IMF/World Bank, FTAA, and G8 meetings, do Food Not Bombs, and speak out in public are NOT "terrorists." Maybe we are terrified by the terrible things we see happening, every day, in this capitalist system, yet we are the ones spreading love and bravery, to replace hatred and fear. We try to spread hope, by sharing our visions of what a better world could look/sound/taste/feel like, to replace the despair that we encounter in the eyes of our brothers and sisters, every day. We speak out for peace, calling for an end to all wars, and all forms of violence, physical and verbal, and encourage people to share what they have with those who have not.
We are calling for the whole world to be fed organic food, to have free holistic health care, to have shelter, clean air and water, and a healthy happy life. If we used all the energy and resources wasted on militaries, worldwide, to provide these things to all people, then watch how fast the wars end. We must set the example for peace, and we can do that by ending the war, and beginning to help get this planet going in a good way.
