WDC 29sep01 Anti-Capitalist Anti-War March

The demonstration, organized by the 'Anti-Capitalist Anti-War Convergence' had begun sometime after 9:30am from Upper Senate Park across from Union Station and the US Capitol. It proceded via New Jersey Avenue up to and then along Massachusetts Avenue and then at 3rd turned onto H Street which it followed across downtown DC ... but as we crossed 9th on H in front of the DC Convention Center I noticed a 'rumble in the crowd' and by 10th Street a 'clash' had occured between the police the protesters ... which by the time 'they' reached 11th Street it had been brought 'under control' ... and then the march continued on to its destination which was the IMF-World Bank located between 18th and 19th Streets on Pennsylvania Avenue ... whereby, the protesters and much of the press were 'detained' in the streets as the police in riot gear surrounded the block by all four corners for more than hour ...
