Americans Against Terrorism

by Marc Keyser
Americans Against Terrorism
BOMBING AFGHANISTAN COULD TURN THE AMERICAN DREAM INTO OUR WORST NIGHTMARE

Attorney General John Ashcroft warned that bin Laden\'s terrorist network is
operating in \"dozens and dozens and dozens of countries around the world,\"
and terrorists still at large in the United States may be planning a fresh round of attacks. As the United States takes military action \"our risks go
up.\"

Why didn\'t President Bush let the F.B.I. and law enforcement agencies around
the world do their job and find these terrorists in bin Laden\'s network first, and find out what they might be planning first before bombing
Afghanistan and putting the American people at such grave risk for a more terrorist attacks?

Why didn\'t President Bush address the grievances against American Foreign
policy in the Mideast first and do everything possible to defuse the situation first.

The bombing in Afghanistan has started; and so has the
rioting in Pakistan in opposition to the war along with millions of starving
Afghan refugees pouring over the border into Pakistan which could destabilize Pakistan.

We know bin Laden was not here in America for the first attack, and we know that he doesn\'t have to be here or even be alive for the Second Terrorist Attack on America. His followers hiding here in America may be planning more
terrorist attacks on our infrastructure which could collapse our already
damaged economy, because our government doesn\'t know where they are, and because President Bush didn\'t take the time to find out.

Invading Afghanistan before we find bin Laden\'s operatives in America,
before we have more understanding what they may be planning, and before we actually have security measures in place that actually work, is extremely unwise. Bombing Afghanistan and inciting a Holy War and creating even more
instability in the Mideast and possibly bringing more Mideast terrorists to
America is unwise and extremely dangerous. Bush should find the ones who are
already here first!

No country on earth that has fought terrorism with violence has ever succeeded in doing anything but escalating the violence of the terrorism. After this first attack on America, no one in their right mind would want to escalate the level of this type of terrorist attack - much less start a WAR
and destabilize the Mideast and invite more terrorism in America- before they find where the terrorists may be hiding first, and they have a clue as to what the terrorists may be planning. Sometimes doing nothing but
investigating and taking preventative measures is infinitely better than
doing something wrong and unbelievably dangerous.

America has stepped into the minefield of terrorism; and at times like these Common Sense and Caution must warn us it is best to stand and wait until we know more about where the mines are located and what the real dangers
are--before we rush to War in the Mideast and make matters infinitely more dangerous for Americans at home.

President Bush doesn\'t know where all of bin Laden\'s terrorists may be hiding and doesn\'t have clue about what they may be planning. Bush doesn\'t have the security measures in place to uncover or prevent more terrorist
attacks. President Bush has not acknowledged or done anything to address
grievances against American Foreign Policy in the Mideast that helped breed this virulent terrorism that has come home to America to haunt us and turn the American dream into our worst nightmare.

WE NEED TO TELL THE PRESIDENT TO STOP BOMBING AFGHANISTAN BEFORE IT BLOWS UP IN OUR FACE

If you love America and you don\'t want to be dragged along in the undertow
of WAR in the Mideast that increases the risk of more Terrorism at home in America? If you have seen the First Terrorist Attack on America, and you don\'t want to rush into a WAR that could trigger a second, and a third
terrorist attack?

JOIN THE CALL TO STOP THE INVASION OF AFGHANISTAN

1. The President must stop the bombing of Afghanistan until the President can
guarantee the America People that all of bin Laden\'s followers have been identified and removed and we have security measures in place that will prevent future attacks.

2. The President must stop the invasion of Afghanistan and stop destabilizing the Mideast. This war could escalate out of control.

JOIN THE CALL FOR THE PEACE INITIATIVE AGAINST TERRORISM
1. President Bush must immediately settle the war between Israel and Palestine.
2. President Bush must stop American Corporations from exploiting Arab nations and breeding this terrorism that has come home to haunt America.
3. President Bush must change U.S foreign policy and stop financing, training and arming terrorists, stop overthrowing and destabilizing other governments, and stop breeding this terrorism that
has come home to haunt America.

JOIN THE MORGAN STANLEY PNONE BLOCKADE

Call global corporations like Morgan Stanley who have power and influence with the President and ask them to help convince President Bush to call off the invasion of Afghanistan and call instead for a Peace Initiative Against
Terrorism.

Call Morgan Stanley at their toll free phone number 1-800-688-6896, and you get a recording. Listen to the options for two minutes, then hang up and press \"Redial\" and call again, - just keep calling all morning long.

If you want to stop this war, press #2 and talk to a broker for 20 or 30 minutes until they get rude and hang up on you then call back all morning
long. Tell Morgan Stanley to stop their dirty business dealings and stop bring terrorist home to haunt America.

Five thousand people calling 1-800-688-6896 all morning long from 6:30 am to
1:30 pm (PDT) when the brokers are busy trading stock, will begin to tie up
the brokers, block their phone lines and disrupt trading.

Investors who are a minute late getting a call through to their broker to buy or sell could lose thousands of dollars! Investors are going to want out and that could give Morgan Stanley a Money Crisis.

Morgan Stanley is going to start listening to us, and they are going to convince the President to start listening to the public. This is America, and this is still a democracy. We have a voice, and we need to be heard!

I want to arrange for 5000 people to call YOU to convince you to change your mind-- please give me your phone # so that I can pass the message to call you non-stop and leave messages and hang up etc....

I bet that will be real effective in turning you around -- DUH!!!

I work for Morgan Stanley and we've donated more aid and support to the oppressed and those in need than you could ever achieve in 100 lifetimes. The wealth we have created in my division has enabled advances in medical care beyond our wildest dreams-- so we can all live healthier, longer lives and end painful diseases. Sounds like you want to take us back to the stone age.

Go pick on someone else with your childish tactics. Better yet, do something productive for society and effect change through our political system like thinking human being.

HAHAHAAHAHAA! Morgan Stanley is a *humanitarian* organization?? You have to be fucking kidding me. Boy, they really keep you folks stupid dont they?

Do you understand Morgan Stanley's connection to the World Bank and to global dam projects? Do you even know what a dam project means for a third world community? Are you just completely braindead???

Private capital flows to developing countries have grown from 31 billion in 1990 to over $200 billion in 2000. By contrast, official development aid from agencies such as the World Bank and Asian Development Bank has stayed at about $50 billion over the past ten years. Because the corporate finance sector has an increasing role in aiding the construction of destructive development projects worldwide, International Rivers Network is actively engaged in advocacy for reforming the practices and policies of such institutions.

The World Bank, traditionally the largest financier of large dam projects, has refrained from extending loans to Three Gorges Dam due to environmental and human rights concerns. US investment banks, such as Morgan Stanley, eyeing lucrative banking fees in emerging markets are quick to pick up where public banks denied financing. Lacking environmental or social criteria to guide what projects they choose to finance, corporate banks will finance destructive projects in developing countries until consumers and shareholders hold them accountable.

Global investment banks must take responsibility for environmental and social impacts for their investment decisions. Morgan Stanley should implement environmental and social policies governing core business operations, including underwriting. Such policies would preclude Morgan Stanley from financing destructive projects in the future, and that future underwriting transactions ensures:

Robust accounting for the use of proceeds;

Disclosure of environmental and social impacts of such transactions.

Because of Morgan Stanley’s destructive financing of the Three Gorges Dam in China, the PetroChina pipeline in Tibet, and reckless deforestation of Indonesian rainforests by Asia Pulp and Paper in Indonesia, International Rivers Network and Students for a Free Tibet urge you to demand the bank stop financing destructive projects and boycott Morgan Stanley's Discover credit card and brokerage services until it takes steps to implement environmental and social criteria that will guide its financing decisions.

Since your posting was so deluded and full of misinformation and wildly misguided "logic" I would love to try and explain to you how the world banking system actually works...but you really should get an education first, because it looks hopeless!

You seem so focussed on a dam project that indeed had some bad environmental and social impact on the Chinese population...that you lose total sight of some very basic facts: It is not up to Morgan Stanley or any other bank to determine whether a project is environmentally sound or attractive looking or whatever-- THAT IS UP TO THE GOVERNMENTS THAT SPONSOR THESE projects. You seem to suggest that Morgan Stanley should become some kind of governmental authoritarian body that regulates world activities?! Now that's a little braindead if you ask me!

You seem to be confusing a bank (one of very many by the way that invested in the dam project) with some all-powerful governing body.

I could go on and on as to the holes in your theories...but I will only ask you one question:

Where do you think all that "increased private capital" that is being directed to developing countries comes from?

by Goldorak
For every 3 "controversial" project that MSDW assists in financing there are probably 1000 projects that are immune from your type of criticism and actually make incredible differences to progress and betterment of the world. But, you don't take the time to learn about those do you?

Just read something, and jump on the bandwagon against the evil corporations!

The private wealth generated and donated to developing nations and the cause for Peace by Morgan Stanley employees and customers alone literally dwarfs anything that could be accomplished by any other private organization. Period.
by morgan stanley
Are you dumb? Your entire point you make is the entire point of the campaign against Morgan Stanley. They are UNACCOUNTABLE. They don't have to adhere to any kind of humanitarian or environmental standard unless it hurts their profit. And let me fill you in: Morgan Stanley will ALWAYS choose profit over the good of the people. ALWAYS.

As for your pathetic PR fund or whatever it is, you do understand why foreign aid is basically meaningless, right? "Foreign aid" = a bribe to a corrupt foreign government which is propped up by the aid you give them. When you give foreign aid to a corrupt government that is barely hanging on, do you think they spend it on revitalizing their social services or do you think they spend it on tear gas to smash opposition to Morgan Stanley's plans for that country?

You fail to see the big picture which is that multinational banking firms like morgan stanley, and moreso, the World Bank, exist to funnel money from corporations to governments so that the will of the corporation can supercede local community voices. This is the fundamental aspect of "free trade" ... and it is why millions of people worldwide have been protesting this shit for the last 10 years.

As for your "progress" ... please. Building a dam dislocates indigenous populations, oftentimes at the hands of government death squads (paid for with your wonderfully humanitarian foreign aid), destroys sustainable agriculture, and further pushes a society away from the ability to internally sustain itself. Which is a good thing for Morgan Stanley ... it means that they'll be back needing another loan any day now.

Have you actually *thought about* or *researched* this, or do you just assume it is true because of how much you love your morgan stanley job (or really, your morgan stanley salary)?

by Goldorak
You're still focussed on the dam project (vs others that promote incredible progress that would be impossible for you to characterize in this light) and the misguided expectation that a business that makes money in banking should be "accountable" for its lending practices which are actually regulated and enforced by the laws of the country they operate in.

By the way-- the World Bank and Private/Public investment banks are VERY different. Read up some more.

Really, never mind. Communism is the answer. This evil capitalism and so-called freedom and democracy stuff never did anyone any good-- ever.

That's why for every 1 person who believes in your false logic there are 10,000 who vehemently disagree. Thank goodness for that!

P.S. These evil corporations like Morgan Stanley-- did it ever occur to you that they are just organizations of people-- all with some very high intentions for a better world, and not some conspiring evil entity that works black magic around the globe? Think about it.

clearly, you should go to school and learn something about economics.
by economics professor
I can see by your well-articulated facts and responses to my arguments that you have obviously been to school, huh!

This is a great response: "no, our projects are great!!!"

Can you tell me what some of these projects are?

By the way, for every 10 people who are trying to overthrow capitalism, there is at least one Morgan Stanley-funded death squad or 3rd world police department there to beat them and get them back to work to start making some well-earned interest. That's democracy, Morgan Stanley style.
by Goldorak
Morgan Stanley does not fund death squads-- but it's possible that YOU, or an American tax-payer and voter, might. There is no Morgan Stanley conspiracy to corrupt the world-- I hate to break it to you.

Likewise, you keep confusing collections of people who are in business together (corporation) with democratically driven policy.

Yeah, banks do finance good things and bad things-- profit is the primary motive, you're right. It's the way economics works. I don't throw money down a rat-hole and wait for pennies to rain from heaven. It's other (political, social, religious) systems that should help people like you determine what is good and bad-- not banks. DUH!

"our projects our great" Hmm.. I never said that... but since you extrapolate that somehow as the essence of what I've said...fine. Here's one little example out of thousands:

There is a hospital outside of Xian in China that provides ground breaking heart related medical care to children run by a team of US and Chinese surgeons that appealled to Morgan Stanley to assist in financing their venture. The technologies that are used (in the US and the world-over) to provide this care are also the result of early stage financial backing by Morgan Stanley customers. Even now, children throughout China die of simple heart complications that are cured at an 85% rate in the US and other developed Nations.

I'm sure you'll find a way to spin this initiative into something sinister and bad...no doubt. You seem to be against any kind of progress, profit or modern advancement of society using the tools available...

Anyway, keep on prank-calling and harrassing the Starbucks and McDonalds and Corporate Banks like Morgan Stanley...it will be a very effective way to make your point. Trust me, that's the way to go!!
