Indymedia Reporter Assaulted by Oregon State Troopers
On Saturday, October 6, 2001, while covering a logging protest in northwestern Oregon, an indymedia reporter is forcibley pulled across the closure line. 35 seconds
As part of ongoing coverage of a logging protest at God's Valley, in Clatsop County Oregon, Portland Indymedia was present at a non violent civil disobedience action that took place on Saturday afternoon, October 6, 2001. As a reporter working with indymedia, my camera caught the following action taken against another indymedia reporter who was forcibley pulled into the closure area and thus made subject to arrest.
After being thrown to the ground and informed that she was under arrest, she was then immediately released when it was discovered that she was wearing an IMC press pass.
Timeline of video:
At seven seconds into the video, the officer crosses my cameras field of vision, from several feet to my right, and visibley yanks someone from the line of protestors to my left. A woman in red attempts to pull this person back from being arrestd.
At 12 seconds in, the Indymedia reporter is thrown to the ground, amid loud calls that she is Media. Officers then discover their mistake, and release her back to the line. As she is helped to her feet, at 20 seconds in, her media press pass is clearly visible hanging around her neck, at stomach level.
Please go to Portland Indymedia for further coverage of this protest, which includes text and photographs. This protest is the first logging protest on Oregon State Forest lands.
