STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS RALLY TO SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS,
DEFEND CIVIL LIBERTIES
The Berkeley Stop the War Coalition and students from the Bay Area held a rally against Dianne Feinstein's proposed action to stop all new student visas for the next six months. Approximately 100-150 Bay area students and concerned community members rallied on Tuesday, October 2 at One Post Street in San Francisco (Feinstein’s SF office) to register their opposition to the proposed bill and prevent its introduction.

TAKE ACTION!
Call Dianne Feinstein’s office to express your opposition: (415) 393-0707 (San Francisco) or (202) 224-3841 (talk to Camille Camacho or Lavita Strickland, legislative staff in Washington, D.C.)

The Berkeley Stop the War Coalition agreed to three broad principles at its
founding meeting on September 14th : first, opposition to the war; second,
opposition to any racist scapegoating of Arab, Arab-American, Muslim, and
Middle Eastern Communities; third, opposition to any curtailment of civil
liberties. Acting in concert with these points of unity, the coalition
believes that Senator Feinstein's proposed action simultaneously threatens
civil liberties and unfairly targets international members of our community.
Expressing heartfelt sympathy and condolences to all those who lost loved
ones on September 11th, the group believes that the restrictions on civil
liberties and anti-immigrant legislation embodied in both Feinstein's
proposed action as well as the already proposed Anti-Terrorism Act of 2001,
are inappropriate, rash and opportunistic responses to the horrendous
tragedies of September 11th.
Previous events organized by the Coalition have included a 5,000 person
anti-war rally on September 20th as well as this past weekend's
California-wide Students for Peace Conference, which was attended by over
20 different schools and universities. At the conference, students came
together to found C-SAW, or California Students Against the War.

Thank you Diane! Excellent Leadership.
I don't think all students should have their visas suspended, revoked or not renewed. This should be towards all those that attempt to gain one. The US has opened its door for far too long, only to get pissed on as soon as it turns it back. Lock the doors to all who wish entry, until our country is not in a state of war. With more attacks on our soil we could all lose our civil liberties, along with our freedom. Ever hear of Marshall Law?
