Memorial To The Dead Of All Times.

Please join Incite! Women of Color Against Violence for a Memorial to The Dead of All Times on September 26th 2001 at 7:00 pm at the pillars of Lake Merritt Park in Oakland, California.

At this time of mourning over mass death and violence, Incite! Bay Area will hold a memorial in the name of the dead and dying of the world. We will create a living history to mark the loss of life that results from violence waged on communities of color both within the United States and outside its borders, while women of color will share stories of grief and pain resulting from U.S. policies at home and abroad.

Since the events of 9-11, the government and media of the United States have focused on the terror, pain, grief, and anger that arise from mass death and violence. We understand the events at the World Trade Center and Pentagon as the product of a long history of destructive U.S. policies toward people of color everywhere. Mass death and violence are not unique but experienced daily by women of color and our communities worldwide.

Standing in solidarity with Arab, South Asian, and Muslim communities under direct U.S. attack, this memorial will call attention to the dead and dying in all our communities. We will call attention to

· Native American displacement and genocide
· Slavery
· Imperialism
· Mass sexual violence including rape and forced sterilization
· The exploitation of immigrant labor
· Mainstream journalism and media coverage
· Increasing police violence
· Mass incarceration
· Militarism and ongoing military violence

We invite women of color to join us in sharing these experiences, stories, spoken word, music, thoughts, and critiques of the violence we endure. We encourage all community members in the Bay Area to come and witness our grief, anger, and fear in this call to life for the dead and dying. Due to the nature of this event, we ask white allies and men of color to respect the voices of all women of color speakers and the Incite! organizers.

This event will take place on Wednesday, September 26th at 7:00 pm at the pillars of Lake Merritt Park on El Embarcadero between Grand Avenue and Lakeshore. This free and public event is wheelchair accessible and close to the Lake Merritt BART stop.

Incite! Women of Color Against Violence is a local and national network of radical women of color activists. By organizing grassroots events like this Memorial to the Dead of All Times, we nurture the health, well-being, and histories of women of color and our communities and move closer towards justice and liberation.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
