Attn: All Anti-War Students! S29 Berk Mtg
anti-war student network meeting at UCB on Sept 29 after SF protest
COME TO AN URGENT GATHERING FOR STUDENT ACTIVISTS IN CALIFORNIA ORGANIZING
AGAINST WAR AND RACISM IN THE WAKE OF SEPTEMBER 11
(Please forward to all students you know!)
The UC Berkeley Stop the War Coalition invites all campus based anti-war
coalitions (or those interested in forming a campus based coalition) to come
to an urgent meeting to start a network of campuses against war and
racism.
WHEN: Saturday, Sep. 29, 4pm (after the anti-war rally in San Francisco)
housing available Saturday night!
WHERE: UC Berkeley Campus, Valley Life Sciences Bld. Rm # 2050 (double check
room location before coming)
WHY:
1. At this crucial time in history, to discuss the possibility of a new
anti-war movement and the direction it may take, as well as how that movement
could best connect to existing movements.
2. To organize against the racist scapegoating that is happening against Arab,
Muslim and all people of Middle Eastern background.
3. To discuss civil liberties abuses that are coming in the wake of Sept. 11
and how that affects grassroots organizing.
4. For folks to share knowledge about the WHY behind Sept. 11.
The Berkeley Stop the War Coalition campus network committee will meet on
Sunday, Sept 23 to work out more logistics so look for more info soon.
If you or your campus coalition is interested in attending, please email
StopTheWarConference [at] hotmail.com immediately, telling us which campus you're
from and include a paragraph about anti-war activity on your campus. We need
to know how many people to expect. Also, if you can help spread the word to
different campuses, please email us and tell us which campuses you can
contact ASAP.
Signed,
UC Berkeley Stop the War Coalition
PS. Things are really hopping here. We had 4,000 people at a peace vigil on
September 11, 230 at the first coalition meeting on September 14, 500 at an
anti-war, anti-racism teach-in on September 19, and 5,000 at the National
Student Day of Action Against War on Sept. 20!
