Oakland Antiwar Organizing
Another coalition formed in Oakland 9/21/0
On September 22nd about 120 people gathered in the Humanist Fellowship Hall in Oakland to plan resistance to U.S. Government warmongering and attacks on civil liberties. They concensed on three principles of unity taken from the Berkeley students’ coalition and the Oakland coalition ‘People’s Nonviolent Response." They are: 1) No war; 2) No racist scapegoating; and 3) No compromise of civil liberties. They decided they want to unify the resistance as much as possible and support the 9/29/01 rally @ Delores Park in San Francisco while still retaining an identity as an East Bay group. Featured speakers were:
Barbara Lubin (Middle East Children’s Alliance)
Meenor (Sorry, name did not record clearly) (Muslim Student Union at Laney College)
Scott Johnson (Int’l Socialist Org)
Seth Schneider, Global Exchange
Linda Sharif, American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee
The next meeting will be 10/1/01 @ Humanist Fellowship Hall, 390 - 27th St., Oakland (between Broadway & Telegraph).
