Right-Wing War Supporters at Berkeley Demo Against Racism/War

by anon
This young gentlemen must have thought that nationalism is more important than speaking out against racism. His sign means: "If only we can beat them into submission, there will be peace." This is the attitude which caused the World Trade Center was destroyed.

That is a totally unfair extrapolation from what his sign says -- it MAY be what he believes but isn't what his sign says.

THINK -- isn't it at least possible that NEITHER responding violently nor responding passively leads to peace. Can't one be pessimistic, accept that violence is inevitable no matter how one acts, but at least one can control one's own actions. That by being passifist one is not adding to the violence and evil in the world.

Look, I think too many of us are accepting without question whether one's own actions toward justice actually protect against violence. Why should that be, precisely? If we believe that those we treat unjustly may respond toward us with violence aren't we forgetting that what will control their actions is not OUR sense of justice but THEIRS. Can you not at least visualize the possibility of being faced with TWO groups of people who believe you are treating them unjustly by not favoring their cause against the other and who both threaten you with violence if you do not do "justice" by them.

It MAY be true that "passifism leads to violence"; it's CERTAIN that "violence leads to violence".

Living leads to death.
Pacifism does not lead to violence.
Violent actions on the part of a person who is acting violently leads to violence.

Dont tell me what this sign means or what you think this young gentleman is trying to say. Its Morons like you that assume crap (like the Fundamentalist extremists who blew up the WTC) and make hypocratic statements like, "He thinks nationalism is more important than speaking out against racism" when this statement might as well be racist. You take this kids picture, then try to tell people what hes really trying to say. What the hell, can you read dunb ass?Your targeting him as a subversive to a cause that your ironically supporting but then your doing something just as bad by profiling him for his supposed. This is not russia where we run around acting like the thought police. Your no better then the people your condeming. If your going to be peaceful and speak out about it, then allow others to do the same. Right now Nationalism is just as if not more important then the plight against racism, because unity of this nation is all of us standing together irregardless of race against a common enemy. An enemy that will continue taking advantage of pacifist viewpoints like the one you and the other protesters would like to see America seemingly share. The real problems starts with spoiled over opinionated hypocritical slackers like you. What, did you find a little time between bong hits to take a poli-sci class and feel important because you put some energy in protesting something for the sake of protesting? - How does it feel to be catorgorized? Maybe we should post your picture too? If you want to live in peace realize the simple fact of the matter. We live in a country with good laws and freedoms that must be protected. Why? Because They are there to protect us, so we can have the priveleges of expressing what many other countries in the world do not allow. The freedom to think. The next time a Taliban Security oficer puts a bullet in another womans head, remember that she once had thoughts too.

like i said, it was based on me listening to the conversation. how else are ppl supposed to tell what others are thinking? face it, whiteboy was at an anti-racism protest protesting with an american flag and sign arguing for war, and he was there arguing for war. what else do you want?
by not so stupid
The thing is, that wasn't an Anti-Racism rally first and foremost, it was an ANTI WAR rally. If you don't believe me, I'll send you a copy of the posters announcing the rally. Anti war is over twice as large as "fight racism". To try and say that this man, who I don't know, was protesting anti-racism seems to be a little dumb. Since this was an antiwar protest, and you said he was pro-war, did it ever cross your mind that he was there protesting the antiwar portion of the rally?

Damn, just because the righties are stupid usually doesn't mean you can be unfair to them.
