San Francisco is a Hate-Free Zone
San Francisco is a Hate-Free Zone
San Francisco -- A group of business owners held a lunchtime press conference today to call for the full protection of the civil liberties of US-based Arab and Muslim communities. Arab and Muslim business owners were on hand to recount threats they and their families have suffered since Tuesday’s terrorist attacks. The press conference occurred at an Iranian-owned business, City Blend Cafe, whose owner, Nick Heydarian (left), has been the victim of four hate crimes since Tuesday.
Community groups began passing out yellow signs and asking stores to put them up in their windows. The signs say:
"San Francisco is a Hate-Free Zone"
"We condemn the increase in Anti-Arab and Anti-Muslim discrimination, threats and violence in the wake of the horrible tragedies in New York and Washington DC. We in San Francisco pride ourselves on diversity and respect for people of all races, faiths and sexual orientations. Racism is always unfair and unjust. Racial prejudice is a spiral of hatred that only leads to more violence. Only love and respect leads to peace with justice."

where the fuck were you nike-protecting, benjamin-loving,
anarchist-arresting assholes when i was being attacked
by my drunken neigbor and being called a 'dirty arab'
right here in the wonderful mission district of
san franfuckingcisco on tuesday night?
san francisco is still in america, and that means
it's a hate-filled zone. if i hear one more white
person tell me how lucky i am to be living
in 'tolerant' SF right now, i am going to scream.
We need to do more. We need to be together more. We need to bring more attention to the fact that not all Americans support a vicious strike against "evil." In itself, that is evil.
How do we start the ball rolling?
I have compiled a lot of information on what is being done. Please look at the site and pick your action--even a small one. If you are ready to protect those people who are being attacked, find others to join with you and make yourselves known to a neighborhood. Make no mistake, the violence is real and the "Hate Free Zone" is more to get attention focused on what should be rather than what is.
The media want us to believe that no one wants peace. The truth is that thousands of letters are pouring into Washington asking for restraint. We could not mobilize in a week, but it is happening. Unfortunately, the President was able to mobilize a bit faster. We have some catching up to do.
I feel for the person who was attacked by the drunk neighbor. Many people that I know are going out of their way to ask ANY person who is not very black or very white how they are doing, and if they feel safe or need help in any way. Black people and white people may not be safe either, but I know that I am more safe than a person of color right now. This is one of the most outrageous things I have ever seen in this country--even I feel fear when I walk the streets in a T-shirt that says PEACE. So, there is a fine line that we are all walking. We must speak, we must act, we must do it together for our own protection and we must start forming neighborhood groups in places where violence has been happening. We cannot meet hate with hate, however. Even those of us who will be attacked or jailed for speaking now must not hate our attackers or our jailers. We must think much higher than that. The time has come for a complete consciousness shift to create lasting peace here, and maybe around the world.
May we all be inspired to action before the first bomb drops...to stop any from falling. But if they fall, a rally is planned for 5 pm in SF. Check the web site. We must stop this together.
peace to you all, care for each other.
Now I know that black people will get it the worst, because they will all be classed as muslims. You want to make it stop? Doing rallies and walking down motorways is a public display of anti-hate. How did Gandhi do it?
Not with banners and stuff, gather as many people as possible and go on such a peace march, that the government will have to take notice. Sit in the middle of the busiest roads for as long as it takes. Take supplies, if you have the balls or the female part, go on hunger strikes. If you are not being violent, there is no reason to arrest you. BUT, if a vast number of people sat along the road, right in the middle and didnt budge, the press, the officials etc, will have to listen!
By the way, I am trying to get that started on the other side of the world, I stay in Scotland if anyone wants to join me! Good luck all of you.
