UKGuardian: They can't see why they they are hated

by Seumas Milne
Americans cannot ignore what their government does abroad
Nearly two days after the horrific suicide attacks on civilian workers in New York and Washington, it has become painfully clear that most Americans simply don't get it. From the president to passersby on the streets, the message seems to be the same: this is an inexplicable assault on freedom and democracy, which must be answered with overwhelming force - just as soon as someone can construct a credible account of who was actually responsible.

Shock, rage and grief there has been aplenty. But any glimmer of recognition of why people might have been driven to carry out such atrocities, sacrificing their own lives in the process - or why the United States is hated with such bitterness, not only in Arab and Muslim countries, but across the developing world - seems almost entirely absent. Perhaps it is too much to hope that, as rescue workers struggle to pull firefighters from the rubble, any but a small minority might make the connection between what has been visited upon them and what their government has visited upon large parts of the world.

Can we get to be like SWITZERLAND? They are prosperous and no wars! We need help here. Also, educate the religious people to SCIENCE! This is just stupidity! Too much stupidity!

The United States has just been added to the list of countries where innocent people die for what their government decides for them.
I have always opposed our foreign policy, but if I tell George Bush to get our troops out of foreign countries and stop meddling in other nation's business, do you think it will make a difference? Do you think we have any control over our government?
Are we not victims because our government is elected?

This rates as a classic of perverse, twisted logic. I'll leave it to others to conclude for themselves whether the knee-jerk anti-Americanism of some in Europe's intellectual and media elite is as absurd as I find it. But using the Guardian's logic, I suppose we should blame the Jews for exciting Herr Hitler's none-too tender affections in the 1940s.

Again and again issues hit the great wall of american ignorance.Other than misery for all it produces miserable reactionaries. The fanatism of the free market economy hang-up is only matched with the fanatism of the islam fundemantalist camps. To get a taste of this friction, the original 'declaration of war' written by osama bin Laden in 1996 is a very good example. You can find it at

Bush keeps talking about "the first war of the millenium"..
What a disrespect to all the people that lost their lives in the last years, from Sri Lanka to Africa, from Chechnia to ireland the world is burning hot, and the idiot is talking about "the first war" That byitself says it all for me

There were many good and wholesome intentions over time. Some of the priorities were reform of drug laws to be addressed, since ignorant solutions only target future generations. Of course we are all global now, with so many IBCs doing business in every nation possible as a rule, with branches everywhere, where national borders are of course completely irrelevant and ignored. For decades, perhaps centuries of such traditions.

Why of all places Afganistan? American POWs held not by one side more than another. And there is talk of the Oval Office aiding whichever militant group is the most outspoken against the little monster, when there are no sides in nontraditional wars, with factions both depending on arms dealers providing each at the same time. All the paradoxes.

Why Afganistan? Why not Palermo, Brighton Beach, the Caribbean, Nauru or wherever else where there are branches of what is by definition global, in most nations around the globe? I guess part of the reason was the intelligence dependency on the DEA, which helped call attention to the need to reform drug laws with wholesome alternatives such as drugs in the traditional sense through hospitals and doctors addressing health problems. Dignity.

In that arena, the Shah's kid promoted the Jerry Brown campaign, before Torchlight parades, and how would things have changed? Of course the Shah as exiled king of peoples of Afganistan focused on wanting it back, with the participation of Markowitz and Afgani carpet dealer friends, until Weisenthal threw them out.

And you ask, why on earth the design of the 11th twin tower doomsday prediction, the subject of UT student papers because of the rumors then, after the UT Tower shooter fired on campus and the Library Science bldg. just down from it back then. Why throw that in? The Dallas British tabloid lady pulling up the tower tarot card to the shooter, then predicting doomsday from the tower, circumstances, date, and so forth, fully knowing the shooter would carry out such brainwashing as soon as he was sold the small arms. And in the aftermath, creative rumors of the 11th, Nostradamus, and twin tower doomsday over the twin towers. Anyway, usually before they do something, those reporting its likelihood wind up in the obituaries in the dozens, as a rule.

It's just one of those things. America was not hit, America was in no way the target per se, just banking interests designing the destruction of global entities considering regulating them, arms dealers clobbering the Pentagon's people upset about private freelance sales of missiles, nuclear arms, etc., and just larger same old mafioso traditions, same way, same customs, with just more money, more people, and so forth.

There was a guy in intelligence interviewed on Kopel, who questioned about the Laden monster because of the accuracy of his group's predictions. Of course a group of ex-CIA, ex-KGB, ex-everybody, and who else knows. Sides of warring factions financially dependent on whomever, different sides buying weapons from the same, and so forth. Members of the DPS selling weapons to the ATF and Koresh and clients with money clients and none of their business, with the philosophy of the more arms sold the more prevention of "tyranny" per patriotism propaganda I guess.

The guy interviewed, wanted to sneakily take a peek-a-boo at the monster, so I guess the diplomatic security psyching him out and there just to accompany him, because he wanted to go, helped the monster's party know what to predict, or whatever, traditional tabloid doomsday prediction style.

Of course ages ago, nobody heard much about Laden. However, if one looked at those grocery store tabloids, as I and others used to compulsively look at style and art not content, there were doomsday predictions stories about bigfoot, pictures of the missing link with hair all over, space alien landing predictions, and in the middle of such stories, rumors of Laden. Pecker and the rest, as well as the Spanish tabloids, whom I asked, and responded, "los judeos nos pagaron" as far as the Miami end.

And so hmm, which, and went to ask some of them. It's kind of splitting hairs I guess sometimes. Is somebody a Jew, does he go to church, was his mother one, and it's hairs that could be split endlessly most of the time. Other times it's not, as far as secular social and financial clubs, e.g., Bnai Brth's and other denominations, after addressed about a couple of dozen funerals just after the MM march, why? Why the seminary head, professors, non-profit leaders, and those people with roots in the same social circles over years, in our small interconnected existence? The people upset and complaining about the chain of events, the people reporting too much, and so forth, the head of the seminary where in the aftermath of the UT Tower shooting, people wrote papers on the tabloid's malice in spreading more rumors, just to scare foreign students and those of color in its original intent as apologized, about the 11th Nostradamus twin tower doomsday prediction concocted rumor back then. Anyway, I'm not of the religion, I didn't get married in spite of pressure, I didn't convert or marry someone who didn't go to church but in hair-splitting his mother was of the religion, so therefore it's none of my business if all those people are taken out. So, OK, what about others in Round Rock and Bastrop? It was allowed that it would be ok to go to Bastrop and call Safe Place, but that is all. In other words, WTC I after the Windows on the World Peace Dinner, with banks having trucks hit banks, OKC, with charges in structural points before trucks arrived, and WTC II, with the parody of the final missile testing site using tortured brainwashed people, are just none of our business or concern. Serving additional purposes of scaring migrating people cutting holes in the sheets to beget, about monsters too, even on the part of those they draw no lines between, family or otherwise, in this chaotic world. Holy wars all around. None of our concern, per holy declaration. I could have married somebody and got on board over some arbitrary line of special people, but I did not. And so forth, as stated in August. People retired from Lockheed tired of dead ends trying to get through, too, and where do we go from here?

Interview those from Moscow who used to vacation in cabins in the Urals and admire the gorgeous mountains. And of those who visited Afganistan years ago, there are those to interview who describe the powder, breathtaking views, and natural splendor only second to Tibet. And it's so gorgeous, and I hope people could consider that, if ski magazines are up to it. What else, besides writing congressmen who tally letters and every one counts, but one is outnumbered? Email me about things of conscience, as we all share this planet, thanks.

There was trust built up over time. In order to try to build up that trust over many years. Aramco, Memorial, Afton Oaks, Cypresswood, PPAS, the members of the Saudi family friends of the GWB one and so forth over the years.

Trust was built up over a long time, for peace, healing, and international cooperation and no war. Hospitals and universities florished in Iran, Iraq, and surrounding nations. There was peace and there was trust.

In France, many factory workers came from Algeria around the same time. In the 80s, they were laid off and often sent back home. PPAS, PCUSA, and a combination of other ex-pats felt a priority in organizing for the Algerians and others to all remain in France and Spain regardless. There were little dirty songs by ex-pats' kids about LePen, the French cabinet, and other things, along with those looked to, as roots in mobilizing immigrant migrating workers, in-laws of the Chavezes and such, during that time. Americanizing France, in the Texas sense, with the valley community in support. They just identified the plights of the Algerian factory workers with counterparts in the valley in Texas, the King Ranch, the citrus workers, and so forth. No religion in consideration, as far as those who don't go to church anyway.

There were valid issues of course. But unfortunately, delegated to polarized sides of holy wars instead. Sniffers, veterans of the ADL, chased such innocence of cultural roots of ex-pats, to running down possible antisemetism and Nazi witch hunts everywhere around their roots. Aha! some elderly person of German heritage in San Antonio, might secretly be a Nazi or Nazi relative somehow in disguise. German-Czech-heritage chasers on the loose with the cult-chasers until Weisenthal threw them down to Florida, but some having to make all roads of the witch hunt game lead to people actually on the low end of the WWII German military. Who programmed the Mexicans it's got to be Nazis, and such, secretly under the bed.

Instead of the fact that usually religious leaders and traditions are designed as a rule for social control of migrating peoples. Zorro!, Zorro the rightful governor appointed on high, and the story of the people organizing the local people for Zorro. And the seriousness of conformity to the roles, over the years, no Nazis of German positions involved. Mostly Mexico City, Fox, Cuban support, UU support out west, but most of all, Central Presbyterian, Goss, and crew, not necessarily anything. People must have leaders and examples to follow and look to, choices fairly wholesome at the time.

It's just complete denial. People were raised in Texas and California traditions of caring for the starving and exploited, and helping organize them, helping them find shelter, dignity, services, health care, and so forth. No consideration of religious background or pro- or anti-semetism anywhere in the picture. So secret plotting ex-German military people hiding out with secret identities in the valley, as notable people still chase, even running so many innocent people like Sen. Bentsen into the ground as well as other decent political families all around.

Raised on Zorro. Homesick ex-pats over in Spain and France as well as elsewhere, doing what they have always done, care for the plight of migrating workers, without any regard to things like race, religion, coos-coos or tacos or egg-rolls, in any way involved. Presbyterian feelings about pride and such, perhaps involved a little in religious roots? and a variety of denominations in the influences.

To really split hairs. "Worms of the earth!" was the worst thundered from the pulpit, as I recall, but there were also UU roots, no involvement of Nazis or Naziisms in roots. Yet people of ADL then cosa nostra origins--shoot root bias back?--still chase possible connections to all roads leading to possible German veterans secretly somewhere hiding out, in the narrow witch-hunt for so many years.

Snakes, not worms of the earth, I guess the Afgani monster put it. It is true that there was trust built up over a long time. Back to Nice, when the Israeli military presented some Indonesian prince to apologize for the behavior of Aussies and British vietnam vets on Orchard Road getting into business with constant glorious schemes, and tourists from everywhere, which nobody considered as having to do with anything.

There was trust and there was peace. Hospitals, universities, happy lifestyles in the Middle East. Then people from Iran screamed at Pacifica about the Iranian lunatic on the air, as things were changing all over the country that way, thanks to intelligence's influences on our choices. Down with the Shah, and the Shah was replaced with Khoumeini, and the Shah of Afgani peoples I guess hung out in Rome. Then to fight Khoumeini, pushing Sadaam in Iraq, then to fight Sadaam, the Afgani rebels with much more Istanbul tinkering than is on the news of course, then, well, who doesn't like that guy? And each time, it just gets worse, all the international tinkering by military authorities dependent on defense contractor stockholders and such. Cold War II, I guess.

There was trust built up over years. The D'Amato/GHWB proposal called for hydrogen v. carbon alternatives to dependencies on foreign oil in the reduction of war and violence for British oil prices. And in going to war for London, the tabloids sure made Patriot-scud war hero stars out of the Schwartzkopf crew, glorifying war.

There was trust throughout the area too. The Administration told Israel nobody's going to get hurt, stay out of it, let the Americans handle it. And Israeli intelligence engaged the same old veteran, wife the umteenth generation descendancy, to play the part, tinkering with Islamic traditions and honor things, commanding Sadaam where to shoot scuds in Israel. Don't believe it? Ask, just ask the appropriate people was that not so. The Pope produced the Shah, now do his geneology and ask. Ask former members of cabinet in the family too.

It was based on trust that people wouldn't get hurt, hospitals, universities, culture, the records of the oldest civilizations in the world, would not be destroyed, as far as taking on the responsibility to undo damage done by the original empowerment of such leaders in the first place.

Israeli intelligence logic, if you boo-boo you have to be the one to clean it up. The problem with going to the war in the Gulf was that military command was glorified over diplomatic heads of state, who tend to serve military interests instead of the other way around.

There was trust in solemn promise that in undoing what was done in Baghdad would leave nobody hurt. The hospitals, schools, universities, and thriving culture would be relieved of Sadaam without injury. Promise. Trust.

Two snakes, not worms of the earth, as thundered from the pulpet towards those getting into the twin tower doomsday situation in the first place. Military people were in partying and reunion--they are those made stars under Schwartzkopf's Patriot-scud displays to advertise weapons of mass destruction to highest bidders around the globe, just before the changes in the Soviet republics--private mafias and gangsters supposedly buying anything without government involvement or knowledge.

The point of going to the war in the Gulf in the first place, when it was so hard for GHWB to stand up to Congress and so many others, without enough support. A decade of totally unnecessary war, starvation, disease, genocide, land mines, bombed hospitals and universities, chemical and toxic devastation, the marshes and farming areas of the Kurds and others ruined forevermore, the more farmland permanently ruined around the globe the more starvation in the years to come.

The horrors of war and genocide, when people who did not want Sadaam or chaos just asked for help and somehow trusted the Americans, Israelis, British, and others to somehow behave as if civilized and intelligent.

That trust was developed over many years. Now there is a generally racist genocide of peoples loosely identified by religion, race, culture, and whatever seems convenient.

PC-USA even brought Marj Carpenter down for a reunion in Kingsville, hopefully people like Jose the famous painter from Matamoros could meet with other alumni from California, and gather people from all around, to work for peace and reconciliation together, making up a team capable of addressing the Round Rock problem. Who else? Maybe US Ambassador Cunningham could make a trek down to Round Rock? And who else? Maybe other people before that, Rep. Archer and Dave Atwood of TCADP of the St. Anne's early crew?

Peace and reconciliation, dialogue, understanding, only one single planet here. It's awful about the twin towers and all the victims who should be the ones to be funded in their needs instead of defense contractor profits grabbing, as well as militant little factions exclaiming how much they hate the monster, equally as bad, getting handed funds needed for victims in Manhattan.
My kids were killed in Air India's Kanishka aircraft, off Ireland in June 1985. I know the pain of those who have survived the victims of the Twin Towers and Pentagon. Let not Mr. Bush lecture me about it. "Make no mistake" Mr. Bush cannot even imagine or understand what it means to live for years with numbness in your heart.

Seventeen years have passed, no body has been "smoked out" nor "coughed up". Even after seventeen years there is no conviction and hours of taped evidence have been deliberately destroyed. Compare this to what was done in the case of lockeed and is being done in the case of 9/11 (Sept.11th).

I saw a documentary film prepared by a Canadian Television Channel wherein the head of a mercenary training camp (film was shot at the camp) explained, rather proudly, how on behalf of CIA, he trains subversives and terrorists, which included those who planted a bomb in Kanishka that killed my kids. But these are not terrorist camps that need to be "carpet bombed", they are free enterprise "crusading" for democracy and civilisation.

Yes America is a very powerful country. And, yes, we the wretched of the earth, so generously called the collateral damage, dare not even dream of justice. We live our lives endlessly reciting to ourselves the story of David and Goliath. There must be millions like me.

My question is: Even if a statistically insignificant number say 0.001 percent, decided that terrorist acts are the only way to aspire for justice, can American people defend themselves?

The American People (for whom I have lot of affection, having studied in USA) must tell the U.S. Administration (the Military Industrial Complex as the late Mr. Eisenhower called it) - enough is enough - let America stop brutalizing the rest of the world to ensure access to natural resources and corporate profits - and let people's interest and not that of Corporations inform decision making. To my mind that is the only way the people of America can defend themselves and not by intensification of policing which necessarily has to be at the cost of civil liberty. A choice has to be made. The choice is yours; it is your country and your people.
