From Genoa to Berkeley--Organizing for Justice, Fri., Sept 7, 7pm

by Scott Johnson
From Genoa to Berkeley--Organizing for Justice
Fri., Sept 7, 7pm
UC Berkeley, Dwinelle Hall Auditorium
The Italian police shot and killed Carlo Giuliani as he protested the G8 Summit in Genoa in July. But they couldn't kill the anger that brought 300,000 people into the street the next day to denounce the pro-corporate policies which sentence millions of people to needless death by starvation or disease each year. The powers that be are feeling the heat, from the battle in Seattle to the Quebec protests last spring. Closer to home, George Bush and his crazy right-wing pals are chopping away at union, civil, gay, and abortion rights. Anger is starting to translate into action against the commander-in-thief. Come learn about struggles from Genoa to Berkeley and find out how you can get involved.

Panel includes:

Ahmed Shawki, editor of the International Socialist Review, eyewitness to struggles in Genoa and Palestine.

Juliette Beck, Economic Rights Coordinator at Global Exchange, activist in the struggles against WTO, IMF, World Bank and FTAA.

Jack Heyman, ILWU Local 10, Chairman of the Charleston Dockworkers Defense Committee.

Lenore Anderson, Books Not Bars, activist against racism and the criminalization of youth.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
