IES press conference at Oakland city hall 8/14

This 19 minute video provides highlights of the press conference organized by Oakland City Council president Ignacio de la Fuente to announce a deal IES. Despite his apparent efforts to keep the press conference a secret, the community was there.

Many lies and distortions were put out by De la Fuente and those who stood with him. Most were refuted by activists as they came forward at the end of the press conference. At least one was not made clear. De la Fuente suggested that the activists wanted him to stop driving his car. While coalition members are aware that traffic and transportation is a problem and source of dioxin, they do not transportation see as a part of this struggle. IES is a point source, and regulated by the state. Alternatives exist for dealing with waste that when burned creates dioxins. No dioxins, in this case, applies to IES, not cars.
