-00:00 Dennis Bernstein Tensions continue to mount in Palestine.. 40 tanks move into city of Jenin.. another suicide bomber strike in Haifa.. Palestinians launch a general strike.. w Siham Rashid of the Palestinian Counseling Center (link2) in East Jerusalem: Israeli security beat Palestinian demonstrators bloody.. today\'s rally a mixed crowd, included Israelis and internationals too.. protestors trying to speak to the Israeli personnel.. a young man pulled out a Palestinian flag.. at least 10 Israeli police surrounded him, beat him with clubs.. an older woman, maybe 65 years old, began arguing with a 25 year-old policeman.. he threw her to the ground.. very peaceful protest.. yesterday, 10 internationals linked arms in non-violent protest.. they were beaten and arrested.. we want an end to the bloodshed.. flashbacks to the images of the U.S. civil rights demonstrations in the 1960\'s.. people are being beaten, women and well as children.. horrified me.. the general strike mostly protesting the Israeli assault on Orient House.. (and other possible East Jerusalem targets, such as The Jerusalem Center for Women and others..) Orient House provided services for the Palestinian community, center for foreign visitors, research, library, diplomatic meeting place.. about Feisal Husseini.. within the Israeli government, internal struggle about Orient House
-11:40 Dennis: w Ziad Ordeh, citizen of the Palestinian West Bank town of Jenin.. Jenin under attack by Israel.. children crying, no food, that\'s the situation here in Jenin.. people can\'t get out of their houses for forty days.. no money to buy anything.. no medicine.. helicopters, Apache, 5-6 airplanes, 40 tanks.. not coming just to *see* Jenin.. coming to *attack* Jenin.. a town of 55,000.. Palestinians just have small guns.. no match for Israeli tanks, missiles, bombs.. fighting in West Jenin.. shooting guns.. everybody nervous, don\'t know what is going to happen here.. no food, no milk.. nothing

-23:20 Dennis: w Susan Greene from SF reporting live from the West Bank.. local news says Israeli troops entering Jenin, being met by suicide bombers.. the mood where Susan is.. business as usual.. the usual sorry state of affairs..
-25:00Dennis: w Barbara Lubin: I leave tomorrow and will arrive Wednesday and will try to get to Daihasia refugee camp, stay in the West Bank for 8-10 days, and then pick up 10 Palestinians and take them to South Africa to the UN Conference on Racism.. about the conditions in Palestine now: Israel has occupied the towns before.. \'under closure\' means you\'re not even allowed to look out the window (or you may get shot), you have to stay inside.. no food, no water.. let out every 3 or 4 days

-30:50 Dennis: w Phyllis Bennis of the Institute for Policy Studies: the Israeli takeover of Orient House is an announcement to the world that Oslo is dead, that the peace process is dead.. the retaking of Jenin.. (link to \'History of Jenin\' website) the crushing of the governor\'s office, is.. designed to show the world there is no longer a peace process.. One would hope the international community would (strongly protest) this clear example of collective punishment.. illegal under international law.. -36:45 Dennis: Rueter\'s is reporting Israel tanks, troops moving into Jenin.. an extensive buildup.. accompanied by medical support, water and food supply (*for the Israelis)
-40:40 Dennis: Jenin Hospital, no supplies left.. the nearest hospital is hours away through many checkpoints.. Palestinians being forced to strip to cross.. Dennis: w Barbara Lubin.. if you don\'t have the intention to permit the Palestinians to have an independent state, it is not a real peace process to start with.. we are worried about the checkpoints.. about how we are going to get the Palestinians out to go to the UN Conference.. about the Middle East Childrens\' Alliance.. Dennis: about the suicide bombings, about the hate mail.. Barbara: these bombings .. a Palestinian girl told her, \"i hate to wake up in the morning..\" killing is wrong on all sides.. like the ANC struggling against apartheid, the Palestinians have the right to resist injustice.. still, let\'s end the bloodshed.. Dennis: about the many Palestinian children who have died.. Barbara: we have to ask, who is making all this possible? .. if WE WANT IT TO STOP, we have to say, NO MORE AID TO ISRAEL.. and STOP SELLING WEAPONS.. It is the US Government at fault here: it must step up and say: the settlements must go.. two states.. let it happen.. \"I\'m sorry.. everybody, for what happened to you..\" and there needs to be honesty and soul-searching on the behalf of us Americans.. News Item: Barbara has been refused a press pass by KPFA management (510-848-6767 ext 255; fax 510-848-3812).. allegedly because she is an \'activist\'.. Dennis: when Amy Goodman was in that cemetery in East Timor surrounded by the military, the first thing she held up was her press pass.. I am (upset)..
