New Report on Racial & Ethnic Disparities within Pennsylvania Prison Population

August 12th Press conference in Philadelphia to announce the release of National Center on Institutions and Alternatives/Justice Policy Institute's study on Pennsylvania incarceration rates.
At 11:00 am on Sunday, a press conference was held next to the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA to announce the release of \"Color of the Keystone: Racial and Ethnic Disparity in the Use of Incarceration in Pennsylvania.\" The new report, jointly produced by National Center on Institutions and Alternatives and Justice Policy Institute, presents dramatic statistics confirming the racism of Pennylvania\'s (in)justice system. Not surprisingly, only two reporters from the corporate press braved the rain to hear a brief introduction of the study. Additional speakers provided an overview of this weekend\'s Counter Conference and next week\'s demonstrations, which focus respectively on creating alternatives to the prison industrial complex and expressing opposition towards the American Correctional Association during its annual summer conference.

I agree on this, but would add one comment. We need a substantive article on why it is that MEN are overwhelmingly being branded criminals. Is it sexism? What are the statistics on the drug crime inmates. Are there as many women in prison for drug crimes?

does this article suggest that blacks commit more crimes than whites or that there is an imbalance in the sentencing
