Into its third year of economic crisis, the Argentine government of
Pres. De La Rua is deciding to balance its giant budget deficit on the backs of the poor, government workers and retirees. With the unions pressuring on one side with frequent general strikes and
the IMF on the other doling out bailout loans based on
"fiscal responsibility", Argentina's crisis is being watched for its repercusssions on neighboring countries and the world economy.
We talk with Daniel Ximenez,
Director of the School of Labor Studies in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
