Buenos Aires, Stockholm, Istanbul, Sao Paulo, Melbourne, Los Angeles, Saskatoon…
In more than forty cities worldwide people organized emergency demonstrations in
solidarity with the hundreds of thousands of activists who protested the G8 summit in
Genoa, Italy.

San Francisco, California - USA
San Francisco Protest Against G8 Injustice

Hundreds gathered at the Italian Consulate in San Francisco to protest G8, rich nation, enforced worldwide injustice, violent repression of independent media by Italian police, violent police attacks on non-violent activists and the police murder of at least one protester, Carlo Giuliani, in Genoa.

One protester was arrested at the consulate.
It was reported on sf.indymedia.org that the protester was arrested for carrying a fire extinguisher being used as a protest prop -
In an apparent attempt at defending himself from police gunfire - Carlo Giuliani held a fire extinguisher in front of his body as he was shot.
Firing from inside a police riot truck, the police shot him in the head then crushed the last bit of life out of him by driving over his body twice, first in reverse then again as they drove away through a line of advancing riot police.

As splashed red paint, symbolizing the blood of the victims of state violence in Genoa, began to dry on the consulate steps – protesters came up one or two at a time to leave roses at a makeshift memorial.
Hundreds of roses were left beneath a large photograph of Carlo with the words “CARLO GIULIANI MURDERED BY THE ITALIAN STATE AND GLOBAL CAPITAL”.

Protesters then marched on city streets and blocked an intersection on one of the busiest streets in San Francisco (Van Ness Ave.) during rush hour.
Protesters formed a huge circle around the entire intersection as others performed a creative re-enactment of the murder of Carlo Giuliani in the center.
The march continued on city streets and ended at a park where SF Police sat on their motocross bikes and watched the crowd from atop a hill.

Protesters decried the fascist police tactics of the Italian state – particularly the violent attacks on non-violent activists and the violent repression of free speech that occurred when police raided the Genoa Social Forum convergence building and the Italy Independent Media Center (Italy IMC) > http://italy.indymedia.org/ <.

The new Italian Prime Minister and other right-wing fascist “leaders” got some of the blame. Signs read:
“BERLUSCONI: NEO-FASCIST”, and…
“BUSH & BERLUSCONI are CORPORATE KILLERS”

Many protested corporate globalization, with signs reading:
“Corporate GREED KILLS” (with a picture of Carlo Giuliani in a pool of blood),
“Our world is not for sale”, and…
“Break the Chains of Corporate Rule!”

Several signs mentioned upcoming World Bank / IMF meeting protests against corporate globalization, in Washington D.C., Sept. 28th-Oct. 3rd:
“Today Genoa – Tomorrow… D.C.”
