About 200 people rallied at the Berkeley BART station Saturday evening to mourn and protest the shooting death that morning of 23-year-old Carlo Giuliani in Genoa during the G8 riots. They then marched trough downtown Berkeley for a couple of hours, stopping occasionally to denounce multinational corporations and capitalism in general. Police were scattered about in twos and threes but there were no confrontations.
An email announcing the event was signed ‘Carnival Against Capitalism,’ a ‘potentially threatening’ group which exists, as far as anyone knows, only in the FBI’s imagination.
