Raised fist in the middle of large crowd confronting the Police Commission

The Police Commission hearing room was standing room only and packed with people supporting Idriss Stelley’s family and working to end police brutality.
The hallway outside the hearing room was full for most of the evening as well.
Friends, family and others gave impassioned public comment and the crowd reacted with sadness, anger, outrage, and applause.

Idriss’ family and friends, are joined by others concerned about police brutality, in making at least three demands of the SF Police Commission (As posted outside the “Hall of Justice”):
------------------
WE DEMAND:

* Conduct a top to bottom review of SFPD’s lethal response to people in mental distress!

* Stop the cover-up! Release all relevant information to Idriss’ family including names of witnesses!

* Launch an Independent Criminal Investigation! The Police Commission must call for a real investigation by a special prosecutor!

Don’t let Idriss’ killers get off scott free!
Join Idriss’ family and friends!

------------------

Idriss Stelley, a 23 year old African-American man who suffered from mental illness for most of his life, was killed by SF cops on June 12th.
Eight police officers responded to a call from Idriss’ partner Summer Galbreath requesting a “5150”:
(When a person, as a result of a mental disorder, is a danger to her or himself, a police officer, upon probable cause, may take the person into custody and place her or him in a Mental Health facility for 72-hour treatment and evaluation).
Idriss was killed in an empty Sony Metreon theatre and “armed” with a tiny key chain pocket knife.
Instead of taking the time required to deal with someone suffering an attack of manic depression, instead of backing off and requesting the help of a mental health professional, within several minutes of entering the theatre they had fired over twenty shots.
Idriss was killed a month ago.
His family has not yet received an autopsy report.
