IRV passes full Board 10-1

by Plattburger (plattburger [at] yahoo.com)
IRV will be on the March ballot. Without comment, everyone except Supervisor Yee voted in favor of placing the Instant Runoff Voting charter amendment on the ballot. This is a major victory for the Greens and for revitalizing democracy!

For more info:

Dan Johnson-Weinberger from the Center for Voting and Democracy states:

The Charter Amendment just passed the San Francisco Board of Supervisors by
a 10 - 1 vote!  This means it will be on the SF ballot in March of 2002.
The amendment is for IRV for all city offices -- mayor, city attorney and
the Board of Supervisors. If passed, it will save the city millions of
dollars, because the city uses separate runoff elections now.

If you'd like to help this effort, we've got a listserv set up -- but more
importantly, we need your initiative! Got a good idea to convince some SF
voters to support instant runoff voting? Start it up!

The listserv is http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/InstantRunoffBayArea and to
subscribe, email InstantRunoffBayArea-subscribe [at] yahoogroups.com

This is great news and shows how years of hard work -- and a bold plan --
can pay off!
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
