IDRIS STELLEY was shot more than 20 times and killed by the San Francisco police officers at the Sony Metreon.

DON’T let Idriss’ killers get off scott free! Join
Idriss’ family and friends! Help us force the SF Police Commission to conduct a REAL INVESTIGATION into this unnecessary killing of a young man by the police.

WE DEMAND:

Conduct a top to bottom review of SFPD’s lethal
response to people in mental distress!

Stop the cover up! Release all relevant information to Idriss’ family including names of witnesses!

Launch an independent Criminal Investigation! The Police Commission must call for a real investigation by special prosecutor!

This seems to be a recurring theme with this incident, the whitewashing of Idris' own state and actions. Every article on the subject has been an incomplete campaign for sympathy.

"Mental distress".. sounds rather harmless. Very deserving of pity.

Far more so that "armed with a knife, having another psychotic episode, causing the evacuation of an entire theater of innocent people, and then single-handedly attacking the 8 cops who showed up in response to the 911 calls."

Spin control, anyone?

Sure, he was murdered nonetheless. "Lethal force" is no more accurate a term here than "mental distress". I highly doubt there was any need to kill him, once the theater was empty and the cops had him cornered.

But let's tell the whole story, eh? What's more important, sympathy or credibility?

"insensitive bastard?" i don't think you're insensitive, SJ, just that you're only sensitive to the side you're obviously on--that of the cops. judging from your posts, you are one of many people in this society who have become peculiarly desensitized to human life and its loss. was idris dangerous and violent? certainly--that's why the police were called! but, bottom line, there was more than one choice the police could have made in order to handle the situation at the Metreon that night, and the police, due to lack of training, racism, or just plain stupidity, made the WRONG choice--20 times over! police DO that sometimes, and when they do, they need to be called on it. they outnumbered him and could have disarmed him or at least immobilized him in any number of ways commonly used to subdue dangerously violent mentally ill people (usually by trained hospital workers who are unarmed--or comparatively unarmed, since they may carry stun-guns, which are also available to police). as for telling the OTHER side of the story, the whole point of this website is to put forth the side that never gets any attention in the mainstream media, in case you hadn't noticed. let's agree to disagree and respect each other. PEACE (and i'm not just sayin' it.) millb
