KPFA & Democracy Now - June 8th at Fort Mason

by Tracy Rosenberg (tracyr [at] media-alliance.org)
The Pacifica Campaign, and the Coalition for a Democratic Pacifica invite you to stop by Fort Mason Center on Friday June 8th at 12:30pm to open the campaign to force Western Public Radio Exec Director Karolyn van Putten to resign from the Pacifica board.
In the wake of sucessfully forcing the resignation of Treasurer Michael Palmer from the Pacifica Board of Directors (he of the infamous sell-the stations email of July 1999)....

The Pacifica Campaign, and the Coalition for a Democratic Pacifica invite you to stop by Fort Mason Center on Friday June 8th at 12:30pm to open the campaign to force Western Public Radio Exec Director Karolyn van Putten to resign from the Pacifica board.

Van Putten - the sucessor to Lynn Chadwick as Western Public Radio's head, has betrayed the progressive media community the organization supposedly serves by siding with the Board majority in forcibly shutting down KPFA in 1999 and WBAI-NY in 2000, endorsing on-air censorship, union-busting in New York, where unpaid programmers are being forced out of the union, and the unwarranted firings and bannings of over 300 programmers in the last six years.

The destruction of Pacifica as a national voice that is accessible to the radical left affects all of us in the social justice community.

The embattled Board has accused Pacifica listeners and programmers (such as Amy Goodman) of racism in their campaign to restore Pacifica to it's founding mission. We need the social justice community, in all of it's diversity, to show that free speech, radical dialogue and worker's rights are what we want as activists and people of color, not homogenized radio.

No more hypocritical race-baiting by corporate thugs.
