Building Trades*

The pull-out of the AFL-CIO by President Doug McCarron of the United
Brotherhood Of Carpenters is a major flashpoint for unionism in the
building trades. The danger of a war within the building trades is real
as McCarron has collaborated with contractors for "wall To wall"
contracts that would require all workers to join the carpenters.
Will this benefit building trades workers or will it lead to underbidding
and lower wages for all construction workers. Will this lead to a bloody
war in the building industry and what can rank and file building workers
do to build unity and solidarity? These will be some of the questions
discussed and debated at this important meeting. The UBC was one of the
founders of the AFL and it's withdrawal in the midst of the assault by
the Bush government on organized labor raises again the question of where
is the trade union movement going. Don't Miss This Important Meeting and
