State Senator Don Perata wants to help schools and services with energy bills.
On May 11, 01 a press conference was held in Oakland to announce introduced legislation by State Senaor Don Perata regarding state funding for schools and counties for increased energy costs. This 5 minute video combines piggyback interviews by the mainstream media after the press conference with my own exclusive interview.
Don Perata from his press release:
"School districts and counties didn't anticipate the huge increase in energy costs this budget year. As a result, they are facing facing sizeable cuts to balance their budgets. This will come at the expense of student performance and services to the ill, eldery and diasabled," said Perata. "Unless the state offers relief, all progress we've made in the last two years in education and health care services will be nullified. Our children, sick and elderly suffer enough without having to subsidize the outrageous profits out-of-state generators are making.
His bill, given energy reduction of 20% by approved public agencies, will result in 80% re-imbursement for increased energy costs. It might take three years.
