Dear Mr. Zuckerman,

I am outraged that you have decided to not back up the rank and file in the JeffBoat workers strike. This act of betrayal casts serious doubts concerning your ability to lead the working members of Local 89. Every minute of their time you waste is a minute that their children are going hungry and whose lives and future you arrogantly put at risk. I demand, as do a growing number of people throughout the country, that as President of Local 89, you sanction the April 30, 2001 strike and do your job as President and advocate on behalf of the people you claim to represent. I demand that you do so now, as your stalling on this issue is damaging the reputation of the Teamsters in the eyes of the working class and as such, putting your job on the line. In fact, if the demands of the workers at JeffBoat are crushed because of your interference, I pledge to support a national campaign targeting the Teamster organization to demand your removal.

I demand that you:

1. Sanction the Strike Now!
2. Support democracy in your union. Making deals with the company behind the union member’s backs is traitorous!
3. Stop intimidating the workers into ratifying the contract. This is nothing less than a version of union busting!
4. Stop all harassment and threats against the workers, such as the threat of penalties for striking.
5. Negotiate a contract that is fair and agreed upon by all of the workers in Local 89!
