the quebec wall torn down by the people

by sf-imcista
People topple the wall! And protests and "Carnival Against Capitalism" continues!
Quebec City - Thousands marched from a nearby university to the wall guarding the summit of the americas. Once at the fence the crowd began to push on it. One person had climbed the fence straddling the top of it - the fence swayed and swayed... until finally a large section of it completely toppled and the crowd cheered loudly. The riot police slowly arrested the people entering the area, and if any threw rocks, sticks, etc - they sprayed tear gas.

Streets surrounding the wall are filled with people dancing, talking, painting murals. It truly looks like a "carnival against capitalism"

Thousands are still marching on the streets towards the wall.

Tear gas continues to waft through the air, and if you turn a wrong corner - the wind blows it in your face.

The mood is jubilant and the Canadian/Quebecois protesters seem really organized and the black bloc is huge.

More reports later today from Quebec.
