FTAA Reporting in U.S. Corporate Media: Infrequent, imbalanced & substanceless

by Andrew Kennis (AndrewInQuebecCity [at] yahoo.com)
U.S. corporate media have openly acknowledged the importance of the FTAA, yet have not significantly covered it. At the same time, the little coverage that exists has been imbalanced and generally lacking of substance.

FTAA Reporting in U.S. Corporate Media:
Infrequent, imbalanced and generally lacking of substance

In over 30 years of involvement in television, radio and
media reform endeavors, I have experienced the extent of the
media blackout like a total eclipse of the Sun on anything
so important as the FTAA and the Summit of Americas "ratification" ceremonies developing in Quebec. NEVER.

It is clear that USA corporate media...just as the USA
war making machine in IRAQ and elsewhere has its new
rules for press "participation"...the 6 corporate giants
have near total control of the vital flow of information
is the USA...and they have NO interest in showing the
Quebec festivities and the protestations there and around
the hemisphere. They know all too well the popular
opposition within the USA for NAFTA, WTO and other
anti-democratic and worker "trade agreements"....
the MEDIA is NOW the COMPLIANCE INDUSTRY.

It seems as the Quebec summit meeting gets underway that
our USA media (compliance industry) will get to work by
showing the few acts of property damage which a small
group of protesters (or agents, if need be) will be filmed
and then screened into USA homes...providing the first
look at FTAA for 95% or more "Americans". This is their
best way to marginalize and minimize, yet they have to
cover the arrival of the IMPERIAL PLANETARY LEADER from
Washington DC.

Fortunately, many USA residents are getting news from
Canada and word from friends in South America and Europe
as well. We have to work as international allies
against the corporate anti democratic and anti life
forces now reaching out for total domination of the
planet's human, animal, plant and mineral resources.

While, we can look small and beaten down...We are not.
We are laying the building blocks for the reform and
change that the world's justice seeking people will
achieve in the next 40 t0 50 years.

Keep up the good work...All of us. Blessings from
San Francisco, California.

Besides criticizing the poor editorial content rampant in most mainstream media, we should also take a look at the people who call themselves "journalists."

They are writers silenced by fear and intimidation. They are passively "observing" and writing what they consider is the news.

One common theme with most mainstream journalists in the U.S. is their ignorance. They are clueless robots the corporate media has convinced are communicators in service of the community.

To sum it up:
most mainstream journalists are
IGNORANT
UNDERPAID
OVERWORKED
TRAPPED in an illusion of public service

It is really an individual's responsibility to find the truth and real news across the globe.
