Art and non-profit spaces lost
We are trying to compile a list of every art and non-profit organization that has lost its space in SF due to the economic boom for a performance at the How Weird Street Faire on May 20, 2001.
The How Weird Street Faire, put on by
the World Peace Through Technology Organization non-profit and CCC art warehouse space, is creating an art performance to pay tribute and honor to all the art and non-profit spaces lost in SF. The street faire is May 20. The space which is hosting the event on Howard St. (between 11th and 12th streets in SF) is losing its own lease at the end of May 2001, because of drastic rent increases that can't be met. As part of the festival, there will be an art performance and
tribute to all the art and non-profit organizations that have lost their spaces due to the
economic boom. We will be making tombstones with the names of each organization, and
invite them to make a tribute or bring something for their tombstone. An essential part of
the performance is finding the names of all the organizations involved. Through our
searching, we have found no master lists. So we are putting one together, which we will
make available to all who help. If you have a list of all the evicted and loss-of-lease
organizations in San Francisco, please send it to me at justin [at] peacetour.com or if you
have any ideas of where to find names for the master list. We are trying to compile all the
names and current contact information we can by the end of April. Thank you very much
for your help.
