the impending doom of the FTAA

by anon IMC photo
The secret negotiations of the FTAA this month will devastate working and indigenous peoples while pushing us closer to ecological disaster, all in the name of profit for a few.

I painted this "Grim Reaper" banner for Save the Redwoods/Boycott the Gap for the WTO demo in Seattle in 1999. We then used it against the World Bank/IMF in Washington DC. We also used it against Gov. Gray Davis here in California as he sold our forests and now our energy. This time they put the FTAA as the same accusation of profiting from all of the natural resources in the Americas.

I have some snapshots of the banner along with the other side, which is "Life is Not A Commodity", but Mary Bull, who leads Save the Redwoods/Boycott the Gap will have more internet ready pictures. Her email is: chalice [at] wco.com in San Francisco. She is in San Diego at the Border Demo and should be back by Monday the 22.
