Anarchist Conference and Film Night in the Mission

On Sunday, March 25th, the Bay Area Anarchist Conference is at the Mission Cultural Center, 2868 Mission Street near 24th Street. This will be the first large San Francisco gathering of anarchist theorists since the Mission district hosted the 1989 Anarchist Conference. The conference is one-day event that follows the Saturday (March 24th) annual free Anarchist Book fair held in the county fair building in Golden Gate Park at Lincoln and 9th Avenue. The Anarchist Conference is sponsored by BASTARD, an temporary organization formed of members of the Long Haul Infoshop's Anarchist Study Group, which is an ongoing project that meets weekly in Berkeley to discuss theory.

The Sunday Anarchist Conference is from 10 - 5 p.m. and workshops occur on the hour. Featured speakers from across the country include: anti-civilization theorist John Zerzan, Individualist Joe Peacott, Social Ecologist Cindy Milstein, and Insurrectionist Anarchist Wolfi Landstreicher (formerly known as Feral Faun.)

There will be workshops on the fight against intellectual property, how to form a study group, technology and domination, feminist anarchism, anarchists in the fight against globalization, and mutual aid. Two panels are planned. The first one at 11-12 poses the question to varied anarchist theorists: What is Social Revolution and how do we get there? The second panel at 3 - 4 asks how anarchists put theory into practice with members of active anarchist collectives. Conference admission is $5 - 10 and the general public is invited. . For conference information and directions, including current schedules, browse to http://www.bay-anarchists.org or call (510) 239-2239 EXT 2662. (Artist’s Television Access) hosts an Anarchist Film/Video Night. Admission is $5. A.T.A. is at 992 Valencia Street at 21st Street, in San Francisco’s Mission district.

The Bay Area Anarchist Alliance (BAAA) sponsors the film night at ATA. BAAA holds anarchist social events, and functions as an information and referral network for local anarchists. For directions, call A.T.A. at 824-3890. The BAAA contact line is (510) 239-2239 EXT 6041.
