Mexican Government Chooses Linux
The Mexican Government has chosen to adopt Linux over Microsoft Windows in a move to save millions in intellectual property charges.
Miguel de Icaza, a Linux hacker and co-ordinator of a project to add user friendly interfaces to Unix, is also partly responsible for persuading the Mexican Government to switch to Linux. The project will save millions of dollars. In France, there was a similar effort to pass a law requiring government software to use provide source code to the public and use free software instead of Microsoft Windows-based software. Microsoft is one of the worst transnational corporations and media conglomerates in the world.
