Harassment by Landlord (Skyline Realty in SF)
Skyline Realty is harassing everyone in our building! Realty.
Typed Sat. night, 2/24/01:
... is harassing everyone in our building! Frank Lembi of Skyline Realty.
I have lived in a studio at 825 Jones St bet. Bush & Sutter for the past 8 years. I pay $579.13 per month. I am 50 years old and am disabled. The
building just sold and everything that the SF Media Alliance has said about Frank Lembi owner of Skyline Realty is starting to occur. Last Wed. (2/21/01) two men walked from door to door banging on each apartment telling
people to come out for an instant "meeting" in the hallway. They were ordered to report to Skyline's offices for a "mandatory 45 minute 'interview'". This report will be continued. I immediately went to the SF Tenants Union where I was counseled and told to keep a detailed diary and,
for God's sake, to refuse to go to this "interview." It is a sad commentary on San Francisco, that Fascist speculators can think they can get away with
outrageous bullying tactics like what they pulled this week! I have joined the Tenants Union and will fight this new landlord to the end! Any feedback or encouragement can be sent to Joey at POB 642099, San Francisco, CA 94164!
Thanks...

I'll agree w/ stooge that you need to pay your rent on time and w/ everyone else to keep notes. Here's something to consider. If you and your fellow tenants have a legitimate grevance, if you can get enough tenants to cooperate, your tenants association can hire an attorney and then pay your rent into his escrow account. That way, you're still legitamately paying your rent, but the landlord isn't getting paid until they address your grevances. I participated in doing this on the east coast in my younger days, and it worked. It's worth a try. The attorney charged us for writing a letter to the landlord to let him know he held the rent in his account and to suggest he meet with us and work things out. We all pitched in a couple of bucks and paid him for writing the letter, but we did all the negotiating. Landlords like to get paid. $500 times XX tenants adds up over a few months. Unless this guy has really deep pockets, he's gonna want to talk. My experience is most of them are mortgage poor and living hand to mouth.
