INVITATION: Valentine's Day Kickoff for Citizens Power YOU ARE INVITED TO THE VALENTINE'S DAY KICK OFF
FOR THE CITIZENS POWER CAMPAIGN!
Are you tired of the shenanigans going on in the "halls of power?" Don't you think there have been enough multi-billion dollar bail-outs of California utility companies? Do you want to make sure that the legislators and the Governor do the right thing?

Come to a press conference Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at Noon on the West Steps of the Capitol in Sacramento, announcing the Valentine's Day kick-off of the Citizens Power Campaign. The Campaign is orchestrating an intensive citizen's lobbying effort over the next few months to convince the legislature to solve the immediate energy crisis and create a clean reliable affordable energy future through maximum use of energy efficiency, conservation, renewable "green" energy (like solar and wind) and public power. Many organizations are participating in the Campaign, including Global Exchange, The Utility Reform Network (TURN), the Green Party and Women's Energy Matters.

The press conference will have a festive, spirited, "party" atmosphere. We'll present big Valentines to representatives of the legislature including Byron Sher, who has proposed legislation that will increase funding for renewable energy, and Nell Soto, whose bills will help us gain some measure of democratic control over the production and distribution of energy in California.

Come find out about the Campaign! We plan to actively work to pass specific legislation. It will be easy and fun to help out-you don't have to be an expert. We'll give you all the information and training you need to be an effective citizen lobbyist, and send you out in teams to talk to legislators and attend hearings. We plan to have an RV "communications center" parked next to the Capitol, where we'll give out information, hold daily briefings, and set up renewable energy exhibits.

Wear pink and red shirts! Bring candy hearts and roses! See you there!

P.S. If you cannot make the press conference but want to participate by making phone calls to your legislators or working on the campaign in other ways, please email Charles Kalish <chkalish [at] ix.netcom.com> or Barbara George <bgwem [at] igc.org>. And please let us know if your organization would like to endorse the campaign.
