Writer, activist, and educator Cindy Milstein will be on tour speaking about the new direct action movement that emerged out of Seattle\'s WTO demonstrations, direct democracy, and anarchist praxis. She will be touring the Windsor to Toronto region between Feb. 28th and March 10th, and the San Francisco to Seattle region between March 26th and April 4rth. If you are interested, you are invited to host a public talk with your organization.

Cindy Milstein is currently on the board and a faculty member at the Institute for Social Ecology, where she teaches political theory each summer and works with degree students year round. Then, too, she is a board member of the Institute for Anarchist Studies, a nonprofit organization that provides grants to radical writers, and coorganizer of the annual Renewing the Anarchist Tradition conference, which attempts to create a scholarly space for a new generation of libertarian left theorists. Cindy also writes for antiauthoritarian periodicals, including a regular column in Arsenal magazine. In addition to studying and teaching political theory, she has long been active in community organizing, libertarian left projects, and social movements.

The topics that Cindy will be addressing during this tour grapple with the potential and limitations of today\'s new social movement. Below you will find additional information on these topics. In conjunction with a talk, Cindy is also available for workshops dealing with the political praxis of grassroots groups.

I encourage you to visit our web site, or email or call for additional information on this tour and the Social Ecology Speakers Bureau. If you would like to arrange a public talk as part of this tour, please confirm your interest as soon as possible.

For an ecological society,

Michael Caplan

Talk Outlines

Toward Direct Democracy
How can people come together to make decisions that affect society as a whole in participatory, mutualistic, and ethical ways? Social ecology offers one vision in its notion of libertarian municipalism, which conceives of politics as a form of popular self-governance by confederated, face-to-face citizens
