Following is a sign-on petition for people who REFUSE TO PAY the 9% PG&E electricity rate hike; you can also get inserts to include with your PG&E bill that explain why (see below). PLEASE SIGN ASAP (we want 10,000 by Tues. 1/16/01!) and distribute to your CA lists. (Don't worry about having your electricity turned off--it won't happen--that would be POLITICAL SUICIDE for PG&E--we did a sit-in blocking the entrance of their HQ in SF last Tues and they wouldn't arrest us because of the negative publicity it would generate). This is part of the popular campaign for public ownership and control of energy generation. The Green Party, Global Exchange, among other groups, are spearheading this organizing effort! We can win this one, and it could have a tremendous domino effect on winning other battles here and across the country for *public* control of what *should be* public: policies and resources, which are currently being exploited by private enterprise.

Campaign Against Utilities Rate Hikes

We're a grassroots emergency coalition dedicated to fighting future rate hikes and rolling back the current 9% hike. We're aiming to collect 10,000 pledges from people to refuse to pay the 9% increase in our January and future bills. Please sign onto the online petition below and then forward it to your friends. Just copy out this short message and the petition below to paste into an email and forward - that is, don't forward all the email headings junk if you can help it. Campaign Against Utilities Rate Hike Petition

We, the undersigned, pledge not to pay the PG&E 9% rate hike approved by the Public Utilities Commission on January 4, 2001. We refuse to pay for the failure of deregulation policies we had no part in designing. We'll deduct the 9% from our bills until the rate increase is rescinded.

We are participating in the Campaign Against Utilities Rate Hikes and have deducted the 9% increase levied on our PG&E bill. We feel that the increase is a misplaced penalty on the consumers for failed deregulation policies which we had no part in designing. We will continue to refuse to pay this increase until it is rescinded.
