'COUNTER INAUGURATION' TO BE HELD IN THE 'OTHER WASHINGTON' - SEATTLE, JAN 20TH!

Poltical Satire And Protest Will Be The Themes Of Seattle Demonstrations
January 20th Inauguration Day Demonstrations To Be Held In Seattle On National Day Of Protest Against George W. Bush

A diverse group of activists and concerned citizens calling themselves the "January 20th Coalition" plan to hold a series of events on January 20th in Seattle to coincide with national protests against the inauguration of George W. Bush as President of the United States of America in Washington, DC.

A rally will take place at Westlake Center at 1 PM, starting with a "Death of Democracy" funeral procession, followed by a mock coronation of "King George III".

Music for the ceremonies will be provided by the "Anti-Fascist Marching Band". Activists Mark Taylor-Canfield and Jeanette Wallace will emcee the event which will feature a special choreographed performance by a modern dance troupe, a fife and drum core, the Raging Grannies, folksinger Jim Page, spoken word artists and satirical political street theater. Rumor has it that a satirical coup is in the works and that the group may choose to inaugurate someone other than George W. Bush for US President...

After the ceremonies and performances at Westlake Center, a
"March For Democracy" will proceed to the Federal Building and the Courthouse sometime around 3 PM. Organizers have applied for permits from the City of Seattle for the rally and the march which they hope will be both boisterous and entertaining. The January 20th Coalition is dedicated to making these events safe for all citizens who wish to participate.

At 5 PM a candlelight vigil will be held at the Federal Building in downtown Seattle for all the citizens whose votes were not counted during the US Presidential election of 2000.

Later in the evening an event will be held at the Labor Temple featuring speakers who will address the election results and the Bush administration's policies on women's rights, civil rights, the environment, poverty, education, and the labor movement. Speakers will include King County Council member Larry Gossett, radical KIRO radio talkshow host Mike Webb, and representatives from women's groups, civil rights groups, environmental organizations, and labor unions.
