2001 Indie Punk Documentary "Rage! 20 Years of Punk Rock - West Coast Style"

by Nancy (punk_publicist [at] yahoo.com)
Info on upcoming punk documentary release featuring footage and interviews with seminal West Coast punk artists.
7th Art set to open punk documentary to coincide with Nitro's release of
TSOL's first album since 1983.

It's been over 20 years since the US responded to the call of the Punk Rock
Movement with bands such as Dead Kennedys, the Circle Jerks and TSOL but that
time has been brought to life by Classified Films in the documentary "Rage!
20 years of Punk Rock - West Coast Style."
Featuring footage and in-depth interviews with seminal West Coast artists
like Jello Biafra, Jack Grisham and Keith Morris "Rage!" explores the murk
and the mirth behind a movement that has grown from an anti-Pop Culture
eyesore, to a runway chic, trendy cash-cow which continues to draw in those
that are inclined to walk on the wild side.
With a soundtrack that will include a song written for the film by TSOL's
Jack Grisham, re-mixes of old favorites like "Too Drunk to Fuck" and "Sex
Boy" and some surprises to be announced, March 2001 will prove that not only
is punk not dead, but Western Civilization is still 'happily' on the decline.

Commercials shouldn't be allowed on indymedia, and that's what this crap is. A real story about what's happenning to real people and places was probably pushed of the front page in order to accomodate this commercial crap.

I wonder whether you would complain similarly if it were announcing the release of a documentary covering the last ten years of leftist-liberal protests and vigils? Why do you say this is not about "real people and places," when the post says explicitly that it focuses on punks on the west coast? If you would be fine with an announcement about a video about the Seattle WTO protests on IMC, why not this? It is independent media, focusing on a culture of protest and resistance.

Now, it may be crap. It may be yet another money-making scheme, intended to commodify dissent and make a quick buck off of people's craving for rebellion. But the same can be true of coverage of protests, direct actions, riots, elections, or anything else. Look at the mainstream media feeding frenzy around the recent US national election. Do you think the corporate press cares about any possible political significance to this election? Of course not! They want to get big audiences for their advertisers. Of course, there has been quite a flood of this election-frenzy crap on indymedia sites, too. I would rather see all that crap "purged" than this post, an "ad" for what might be good independent media coverage of "real people" and "real events." Elections are non-events, pure hype and spectacle. This documentary at least promises to cover something real.

And you're annoyed.
