As always, I was glad that these protests attracted media attention. My partner was in Union Square for the largest of the anti-fur demonstrations.(We are both strongly anti-fur and anti-vivisection, by the way, and I have a 25 year history of radical social activism.) He witnessed numerous protestors - mostly young, it seems - who were sadly behaving in aggressive and uncivil ways, contrary to the the process and spirit of civil disobedience (CD).

It seems to me that CD training needs to happen - otherwise, why are these protestors actually behaving in ways that are inconsistent with the idea of peaceful, active, civil disobedience protests?

Please - anyone who works with PETA and In Defense of Animals in the SF Bay Area: insist that ALL protestors for these very high-visibility demonstrations go through nonviolence training for CD.

Thank you to all of the other protestors who were civil and who tried to educate the public about the horrors of the fur and animal research industries!
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
