Call & support etown.com customer service workers!

by anonymous anarchist union supporter
Call & let the workers know that the public supports them, and disrupt business-as-usual at etown.com: 1-877-463-8696. Keep in mind workers may choose to not respond because the bosses are monitoring their calls.

I'm going to be blatantly honest here. If etown workers want my support then I want to see them show some solidarity with the antidisplacement movement. I can't honestly say I want dot com workers in my neighborhood. I personally feel they are opportunistic carpetbaggers who have invated my home and are in San Francisco purely to retire at 25. Why else would anyone sit in front of a computer for 16 hours a day? Union busting is disgusting, but should we expect any different from the extreme captitalism of the new economy? Sorry, but my energies are staying with my community.

While I understand your anger towards people who work at dot com's I believe that you are making a serious mistake by propegating a stereotype of those who work at dot com's. Internet businessess often times have the same structure as their "brick and mortar" counterparts and many of those who work at them are just trying to make ends meet. I would venture to say that those who are working at E- town are not thinking about making millions and are working at customer service jobs that are equivalent to those at AT&T.
Just as in any capitalist venture their are those who exploit
and those who are exploited. Instead of criticizing people for
trying to put bread on their table and paying their rent maybe try some understanding and solidarity to all those who struggle for justice.

Peace, liberty and justice

by anonymous "dot-com" worker
then allow me to be equally as honest.
i am a worker. i am employed by a dot-com. i make $9.86 an hour. i live in the mission district. i have lived here for a long time. i support the anti-displacement movement, and have attended any number of rallies.
the danger of stereotyping ANYONE who happens to work for a dot-com is VERY divisive. do you understand that there is not much work in this town besides at dot-coms?
not everyone who works at a dot-com is going to retire at 25. at my job, i will be working until they lay my corpse in a grave. and yes, it is at a dot-com.
who do you think cleans the offices at dot-coms? who do you think answers the phones? who do you think fields customer service requests from dumbass customers all day?
if you cannot see past the words "dot-com" and realize that there are shit workers at every business, then may i say as nicely as i can, fuck you.

I am not a shit worker I am not going to retire at age 25 because i am 30+ now. The only real job i have been able to find with a decent salary is at a dot.com (probably won't last past the layoffs going around now however). I moved to california to find work at a dot.com, all our steel jobs have been exported in my hometown please excuse me for not being a native californian. please excuse me for learning how to use a computer. Previously others had learned carpentry, welding or other crafts to find a good paying skilled LABOR position. So I enjoy your buying into the the capitalist idea that Dot.Commers are this new super race of yuppies. I enjoy how you think Dot.Commers are somehow superior to you or different that there really is this new class of people , that there really is a NEW ECONOMY. Congratulations, in your need to be radical you have let yourself be duped by the Capitalist image makers.

ATTENTION: there is no new economy, there is the same union busting practices as old, there is the layoffs and downsizing of old. Learn a skill and earn more and expect to switch jobs every six months. Your choice is earn more and switch jobs or earn less and switch jobs every six months. i would rather earn more than less.

P.S. the IWW has a union of communications and computer workers for those dot.commies not able to organize a shop contract but interested in unionizing.

NO ELECTRONS WERE INJURED IN POSTING THIS

Try the cafe down the street...they are paying $10 an hour but they can't find anyone to fill their positions because EVERYONE wants to work at a dot com...or try the non profit I work at that can't find workers to fill their $10 an hour positions because EVERYONE wants to work at a dot com. Who are you trying to kid? I've been in this city most of my life. I've seen a lot of changes. There are other jobs in this city besides at a dot com, just ask most of the shop keepers, small business owners, restauranters in the Mission who have been there a long time why they can't find workers. BECAUSE ALL THE WORKING CLASS HAVE BEEN RUN OUT OF TOWN. Give me a fucking break with this whining. If you play with the sharks, you're gonna get bit.

Is this the same dot.com that is running global exchange out of their building? If so, then how can anyone with an ounce of decency want to work for such a company? You people shouldn't be striking, you should be throwing malatovs at the CEO. HELLLOOOO!
