The fact that many of the (hostile male) demonstrators were paid republican aides who were flown in from DC (expenses-paid plus stipends) to be on-call for pro-Bush activities may not be very clear from this discussion, but it was mentioned on Pacifica radio's Democracy Now! this morning.

for tomorrow's count-the-vote rallies. However those are as yet poorly circulated (so much so as to make me wonder whether there will be any event at Powell and Market at all -- the one at Oakland City Hall seems to have some separate source of energy.)

Among mainstream media, the 11/27 Wall Street Journal detailed how the thugs were largely Congressional staffers recruited out of Tom DeLay's office, all expenses paid by the Bush campaign. ABC News first broke the story, but seems to have let it go, as if it were just one more little twist among so many.
