5 Arrested in Mattole

by anonymous (mattoledefense [at] yahoo.com)
Pacific Lumber Security know as the Humboldt Sheriffs Department Arrested 5 forest defenders today in the Mattole.
This is a report from listening to the local radio station this evening. KMUD reported that for the second day in a row, loggers where escorted by armed security guards know as the Humboldt County Sheriffs Department. 20-25 residents blockaded one entrance into the area at the crack of dawn, but Columbia/PL did an end around and entered into the THP through a backdoor venue. 5 forest defenders were taken into custody sometime throughout the day. Police formed human chains to allow the loggers access to these anceint forests. Yseterday they cut under ten trees, today the cut around 30.
PL is using the police state to get the cut. Bodies are needed to hike the twelve miles into the back country to hold these loggers off. There is also need for people to help out with blockades at the three gates that they can access this logging site.
A courtdate is scheduled in Febuary for this THP, but it will be moot if the trees all have been cut.
Residents where asking that people contact the elected officials, maxxam, CDF, and OSHA. Time is running out on these ancient forests and the folks out there in the woods can use the help. They have organized on this issue for a long time and the struggle is in full swing!
