It is technically possible to shut down the national power
grid on Inauguration Day. If enough homeowners/tennants
cycle power to their residences (i.e.: turn house mains off, wait ten minutes, turn them back on) the resulting inrush current will produce a massive spike in demand that current generating capacity can't meet. The trick is doing it on cue, all at the same time. More details are available
