Medea Benjamin goes to Florida

by mark vallen
on her way to Florida to call for a re-vote and an abolishment of the Electoral College.
Green Party candidate for California Senate, Medea Benjamin was
interviewed on KPFK [Note: KPFK is KPFA's sister station in Los
Angeles] this afternoon by Joe Domanick. Domanick, who hosts an
afternoon talk show, was openly hostile to Ms. Benjamin... charging the
Green Party with undermining the Democrats and making possible the whole
deadlocked situation. Though Domanick's show was about the electoral
crisis... he used much of the hour to attack the Greens. However, it must
be said that Domanick did have the good graces to invite Medea Benjamin
onto his show so that she could offer the Green view on the crisis.

The Green Party candidate announced that she is on her way to Florida
to call for a re-vote and an abolishment of the Electoral College. Ms.
Benjamin said the ballot mess in Florida should be the focus for all
people concerned about Democracy, and said that everyone should put aside
their differences to mount a massive protest in favor of the popular vote
and against the Electoral College. Ms. Benjamin said she was getting on a
plane so that she could stand with those in Florida who are calling for a
re-vote. She called on people across the United States to make loud
demonstrations in favor of the popular vote.
